SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE OF ROLE

The US Greenfields Exploration (GFX) intern will be responsible for supporting the Greenfields Exploration team on projects that may include developing early-stage exploration projects though geologic investigation, leveraging GIS and 3-D modeling software, assisting drill program operations, and writing procedures and guidelines.

 

Role Accountabilities:

  • Aid the geology team in the execution of exploration activities including assisting with geologic mapping, surface sampling, drill program management, soil sampling, document management, and digital workspace organization.
  • Use ArcGIS and LeapFrog Geo software to create, manipulate, and validate 2D and 3D data in support of GIS, and other spatial data projects for our US Exploration operations.  Example data types include geologic mapping, satellite imagery, drilling, geochemical samples, land boundaries, etc.
  • Assist with data management, digitization, and organization.
  • Assist the Senior Geologist in side projects supporting the overall exploration workflow.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Basic understanding of exploration techniques, including mapping and sampling.
  • Experience in GIS and modeling software platforms (ESRI ArcGIS and Leapfrog Geo).
  • Must be able to:
    • crawl, crouch, kneel, sit, climb, walk, stoop, and stand frequently.
    • work outside for extended periods in extreme temperatures. 
    • walk on uneven terrain and slopes for an extended period.
    • lift to 50 pounds at times.
  • Near vision must be sufficient to read, without strain, printed material the size of typewritten character. Normal depth perception and field of vision are required, as is the ability to distinguish basic colors.
  • Must be able to legally drive company vehicles if assigned.
  • Will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including steel toed boots, high-visibility clothing, protective eyewear, and hearing protection.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Geology.

 

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong awareness and commitment to safety in the workplace and at the project site. 
  • In the process of completing a degree in Geology.
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Be self-motivated; have an “investigative / curious” nature; and be driven to help the entire organization successfully achieve its goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills- listening, reasoning, speaking, and presenting

 

COMPENSATION: 

Undergraduate: $27/hour 

Graduate: $35/hour
