The Category Manager, Heavy Mining Equipment (Procurement) plays a critical role in managing end-to-end strategic spend categories that drive the company’s financial and operational performance. This includes strengthening supplier partnerships, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery excellence, and securing long-term value through strategic negotiations.
This role provides direct support to the Director, Category Management – Mining Contracts, HME & Tyres, helping implement and manage supply market strategies for these key categories. Success requires strong global supply market knowledge, advanced negotiation capabilities, and the ability to deliver measurable value through strategic procurement. Cross-functional collaboration is essential to align category strategies with broader business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Category Leadership
- Support development and implementation of the Global Category Management Strategy.
- Assist in designing and governing a unified company view of supply markets for assigned categories.
- Deliver market insights, financial analysis, and risk assessments to guide decision-making.
- Identify and analyze category opportunities, ensuring alignment with business needs.
Supplier & Contract Management
- Support supplier relationship management and sourcing plans.
- Lead negotiation strategies for high-value Heavy Mining Equipment contracts.
- Draft tender documents and contracts, ensuring SOX compliance.
- Manage contracts in SAP for efficient and compliant execution.
- Develop and manage should‑cost models tied to site-level requirements and market dynamics.
- Structure contracts to optimize performance, reduce risk, and improve cost efficiency.
- Define joint objectives and KPIs with suppliers, and lead performance monitoring.
Market Intelligence & Analytics
- Conduct market analysis, benchmarking, and spend segmentation.
- Provide insights across cost modeling, pricing discipline, solution modeling, and advanced analytics.
- Build business cases to support leadership decisions.
- Deliver quarterly market and supplier updates to business leaders.
Operational & Cross-Functional Support
- Support Business Improvement teams and business units with functional category expertise.
- Promote effective procurement processes and improve supplier participation across regions.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices across the organization.
Category Management & Value Delivery
- Implement a standard Group-wide Category Management approach to drive cost leadership.
- Apply TCO strategies to reduce total cost of ownership for external spend.
- Utilize the Category Management Playbook—Review, Strategize, Execute, Track—across all initiatives.
- Develop implementation roadmaps, transition initiatives to the Full Potential Hub, and report progress.
- Manage value delivery across five sources: Opex, Capex, Working Capital, TCO impact, and cost avoidance.
- Enable consistent reporting and transparency through Savings/Value Delivery and Price/Volume Variance reports.
Full Asset Potential Program
- Lead site-level improvement projects across mining, processing, LOM strategy, and external spend.
- Support a two-year rolling refresh program, feeding insights back to regional and global teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant category management or commercial analytical role.
