As the Manager Technical Reporting, you will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and governance of the Group's accounting policies and directives, including non-GAAP financial reporting frameworks. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior management and finance teams across multiple geographies, ensuring consistent, accurate, and compliant application of IFRS and US GAAP standards.

This role requires expert knowledge of technical accounting issues with a focus on complex transactions such as acquisitions, disposals, restructuring, and financing arrangements. You will also manage time-sensitive projects including the Annual Reporting cycle, regulatory filings (Form 10-K and 10-Q), and M&A related accounting activities.

 

Role Accountabilities

  • Design, implement, and govern standard Group accounting policies and directives, including non-GAAP reporting frameworks that align with strategic financial objectives.
  • Ensure the consistent and accurate application of accounting policies globally, fostering strong collaboration across geographically dispersed teams.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive IFRS and US GAAP technical training sessions tailored to various global operational units, enhancing technical competencies and compliance confidence.
  • Provide authoritative advice on the interpretation and application of technical accounting standards, addressing both routine and non-routine financial transactions.
  • Lead research and analysis of complex, one-off transactions such as acquisitions, disposals, group restructuring, and new financing arrangements, ensuring robust accounting and disclosure treatment.
  • Oversee the implementation of US GAAP reporting and related adjustments stemming from changes in primary stock exchange listings, as well as compliance with UK regulatory reporting requirements and emerging sustainability accounting standards.
  • Maintain and update the IFRS financial reporting frameworks and the UK annual report disclosures, proactively integrating new or amended disclosure requirements to ensure transparency and regulatory adherence.
  • Conduct thorough financial statement note reviews focused on disclosure clarity, accuracy, and compliance to regulatory standards.
  • Foster and maintain constructive relationships with external auditors, SEC legal advisors, and other regulatory bodies, facilitating effective communication and timely resolution of inquiries and review processes.
  • Manage the completion of all disclosure and regulatory checklists to support external reporting obligations, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and governance.
  • Act as the Group’s representative in providing informed responses to exposure drafts and public comment opportunities on accounting standards, ensuring the company’s perspectives are effectively communicated.
  • Provide expert support to the Senior Vice President: Group Controller on regulatory comment letters received from the SEC, coordinating responses that align with strategic business interests.
  • Promote adoption and support of the World Gold Council (WGC) guidance framework at business units and sites, ensuring best practices in reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain rigorous assessment and classification processes for growth capital and exploration expenditures, partnering closely with business units to ensure consistent application.
  • Lead project management responsibilities for the annual reporting cycle, including drafting critical Audit Committee papers that summarize new accounting developments, SEC regulations, and other regulatory evolutions.
  • Coordinate SOX control modifications within the finance team, collaborating with the SOX compliance team to address control deficiencies, implement new controls, and participate in year-end SOX assessments alongside external auditors.
  • Engage in combined assurance reviews, contributing technical expertise and ensuring the alignment of accounting controls with broader risk management frameworks.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant postgraduate degree in Accounting and/or professional Chartered Accountant qualification or equivalent is required.
  • Approximately 10 years of progressive experience within the mining industry or related sectors, with significant exposure to corporate financial reporting and accounting functions is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of IFRS accounting standards is essential; familiarity with US GAAP is a valuable advantage.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex commercial, accounting, and financial reporting challenges, demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing and mentoring high-performing, cross-functional, and geographically diverse teams, fostering collaboration and excellence.
  • Track record of engaging with senior leadership and external stakeholders in a professional and influential manner.
