Reporting to the VP - Sustainability, the Manager of Environmental Approvals & Closure will lead environmental approvals and closure compliance and stakeholder relationships across our Australian mining operations. You'll provide crucial technical guidance to maintain our social license to operate while ensuring regulatory compliance across State and Commonwealth levels.
 

This role involves coordinating environmental permits, managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and driving proactive environmental management through our operations.
 

An understanding of mining operations in Australia and financial considerations of closure are key. You'll support both established mine sites and Australian exploration projects, while helping develop robust environmental and socioeconomic management systems.


This position requires on-site presence, and applicants should be prepared for regular travel to the sites as part of the role.


Accountabilities:
 

  • Delivery of approvals on time, while maintaining compliance, to allow both operations to achieve their business plans on an annual basis, ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are met;

  • Managing and driving the delivery of closure requirements, including the ongoing planning and execution of rehabilitation, ensuring all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Provision of strategic advice, including identification of approvals triggers and pathways, as well as mitigation of approvals or closure risks. Timely and accurate reports, identifying and managing regulatory risk, managing compliance, and providing environmental support to all teams within the Sustainability function, across the region;

  • Work planning and the development of leadership capabilities (particularly at the front-line supervision level), regular engagement with internal stakeholders and external parties including Regulators across Government Departments, and the participation in industry forums (ICMM, CME and MCA)


About You

  • A strong commitment towards leading a safe work culture.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Management and/or planning or related field, or equivalent experience.

  •  Post graduate Environment qualification (preferred)

  • 10 years mining industry experience at a managerial level · Experience including some or all of the following:

    •  Part IV Environmental Impact assessment;

    •  Part V Approvals;

    •  Mining Proposals;

    •  Environmental Management Systems; or

    • Asset closure.

  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.

  • Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
