AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Mechanical Technician (Shaft) – Underground Mine Infrastructure reports to the Mechanical Supervisor – Shaft Infrastructure and is accountable for general mechanical maintenance and repair of mine infrastructure and Shaft Infrastructure, Shaft statutory inspection, ore transport equipment and materials movers in a safe and compliant (primarily with LI2182) manner as instructed during refurbishment, later maintenance, of the Shaft Infrastructure.

.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
- Comply with AGAG Environmental Management, compliance and other legal requirements.
- Take action to prevent environmental pollution
- Comply and follow the operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of the assigned job.
- Correct, or report to their supervisor, any observed environmental deviations, practices and conditions as well make suggestions to improve any aspect of environmental management.
- Conduct Daily, Weekly, monthly Shaft Statutory inspections and Maintenance in accordance with AGA Standard
- The work is to be executed in accordance with detailed tasking with applicable Government of Ghana and AGAG safety and environmental requirements.
- Perform Slinging of materials in the shaft according to AGA SOP’s and standards
- Execute statutory Inspections of Shafts, Transporting and Slinging of Materials and all Other shaft related Jobs in accordance with and ensuring compliance with LI2182
- Identify actions for continuous improvement and that compliant operability to requirements is ensured
- Organize and report information for the Shaft Supervisor to allow development of condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment;
- Execute designated and tasked daily work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
- Report any anomalies to Shaft Supervisor/Shaft Logbook for the generation of work requests in SAP as required for maintenance planning and scheduling
- Carry out daily pre-start and/or shift handover checks and complete check sheets as required according to the established schedules and also per plant requirements.
- Execute daily pre-start checks of equipment/tools prior to leaving workshop. Escalate and report any anomalies
- Assess all equipment required for completion of the tasked work (Slings, Chain Blocks, Wire Ropes etc.), create checklist and transport all tools necessary for task completion
- Complete shift short interval control sheets as required
- Monitor operating parameters in accordance with standards provided and take corrective action as indicated or required
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification / Experience:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/ Technician Certificate Part I or equivalent with 2 years practical engineering/maintenance experience in the mining industry OR
- Mechanical Apprenticeship with accredited certificates (City and Guilds, National Vocation Level 1) and has a minimum of 5 years practical maintenance experience
- Working knowledge of LI 2182
