The Obuasi Redevelopment Project has attained its original project schedule to become a modern efficient processing and underground mechanized operation, and it is now moving to achieving study state operation with the final aim of achieving 5000 tonnes per day processing.
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

ROLE PURPOSE
The purpose of the role is to lead and oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of mining projects within the Mining Operations department, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of infrastructure and operational initiatives. This role also provides expert advice in all mining projects, ensuring compliance to approved designs and engineering standards, as well as compliance with the Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2182). The position holds accountability for maintaining these standards across all relevant activities within the mining operations.
The Mining Project Superintendent will lead the production of comprehensive mining project plans and documentation to enable all mining project to be managed against a clear set of defined deliverables and milestones. In the event of irregularities or emergencies, the Mining Project Superintendent will take prompt action to resolve issues and maintain compliance. The Mining Project Superintendent also plays an essential role in promoting safety culture, hazard awareness, and ensuring that relevant mining and statutory codes and regulations are fully adhered to in the underground environment.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned and ensure timely completion.
- Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
- Establish the necessary project engineering processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including Operational Readiness.
- Deliver projects within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
- Demonstrate safety leadership and drive cultural improvement across the Mining operations department in relation to safety, health, environmental and sustainable development.
- Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team, ensuring there are capable and consistently able to deliver the annual budget according to their role and level of authority
- Present solutions to specific problems with defined resolution methodologies and the necessary resources to improve performance in processes and procedures.
- Anticipate potential process or procedural issues arising within or from the specialist domain by implementing statistical controls (alert system), improved work practices, procedures and processes.
- Enhance team knowledge and skills while reporting on work programmes progress, demonstrating appropriate controls to manage identified risks.
- Optimise procedures within existing functional processes through problem identification and resolution methodologies
- Conduct trend analyses on functional performance to identify and recommend ways of optimising resources for work cycle execution and pre-empt potential process and procedure variance through the establishment of proactive controls:
- Manage mining project schedules to meet operational requirements.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to him/her or under his/her jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
Experience
- Five (5) to eight (8) years' proven experience in mining project in an underground mine of which at least three (3) years is at senior supervisory level within a mining operation.
- MINCOM Mine Captain certificate of competency is an advantage
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is an advantage
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge in Mining Project practices and demonstrate ability in managing all mining projects.
- Mining Project Processes and Practices
- Extensive experience and understanding of mining project process/practices.
- Understanding of good mining project practices, management, support systems, and how each should interact to deliver targeted performance.
- Ability to develop innovative technical ideas/practices with regards to mining operations and projects and their application.
- Extensive knowledge of Mining Methods and strengths and weaknesses of the methods and the applicable use
