AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The purpose of the role is to manage and co-ordinate the backfill requirements for the mine in line with the established Mine plan.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative
  • Develop the Backfill Engineering team recruitment specifically driving the localisation aims of the mine.
  • Map key internal stakeholder relationships and value with relevant management routines (communication, touchpoints, key meetings).
  • Provide unequivocal Backfill Engineering planning data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 18-month plan to be produced on time.
  • Develop the annual Backfill Engineering cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and LoM business plans
  • Deliver the work of the Backfill Engineering function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs
  • Recommend and optimise the approach for conducting specialist projects and research in the Backfill Engineering process and procedures
  • Establish a network of targeted stakeholder relationships to socialises initiatives and enhancements
  • Report on the development and progress of initiatives and enhancements of the Backfill Engineering function, to include outputs and befits obtained.
  • Describe the specific problems and constraints to be managed within the Backfill Engineering function
  • Present solutions to specific problems with defined resolution methodologies and resources to deliver improved performance in processes and procedures
  • Monitor and report on the outcomes and standards of work from direct reports or field personnel and contractors
  • Quarterly Reports which identify areas where Backfill Engineering may contribute an increase in enhanced methods which will bring improved efficiencies
  • Optimise procedures within existing functional processes through the application of problem identification and resolution methodologies
  • Establish and maintain consistent team performance and relationships within the function and cross-functionally within the department
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.

 

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Qualification

  • BSc. Mining / Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent

 

Experience

  • Five (5)  to eight (8) years' operational experience within an underground mining environment of which at least three (3) years is paste fill systems based.
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of fundamental underground backfill mechanics;
  • Proficient in the use of Mining Software;
  • Proficient in the management and control of underground backfill operations across a range of fill types

 

Technical Competencies

  • Understand the mining processes and actively contributes in part to delivery of the expected outcome / service the mining processes deliver.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to apply technical skills and/or delivery of a service within one or more of the mining processes with minimal supervision.
  • Directly responsible for delivering a production aspect of the plan.
  • Understand good underground production practices, management, support systems, and how each should interact to deliver targeted performance.
