AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The Civil Engineer is accountable for the inspection, designing and maintenance of all steel and concrete structures and earthworks in all areas of site operational and project implementation. The role will lead the implementation and supervision of construction, specifications, standards, and safe workmanship to ensure the timely completion of all civil construction works. The Civil Engineer will implement and maintain the systems and processes designed to maintain the health of all steel and concrete installations and lead contract management to improve project delivery, ensure safety, manage costs, and reduce environmental incidents – with the objective to reduce costs and sustain Project improvement initiatives.

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Lead in the conduct of periodic audit on all steel, concrete, wooden etc infrastructures and outline to the Superintendent, Infrastructure and Projects strategies to maintain the health of these installations.
  • Lead in the specification, designing, analysing and verification of new civil/structural projects
  • Actively participate in the Root Cause Failure Analysis process of concrete and steel structures.
  • Review, approve, and sign-off infrastructure detailed design requirements, detailed execution plan and schedule, detailed testing plans, operational commissioning plans, handover plans, training plans, manuals, records, drawings, specifications, and documents issued.
  • Deliver infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy, which addresses the construction time, cost, and quality risks
  • Ensure cost impacts in area of accountability are evaluated, approved and budget is revised
  • Review the application of safety standards and work practices for the construction and contracts workforce to enable the safety targets to be managed and achieved.
  • Oversee all relevant inspections and testing procedures to ensure quality and/or performance is in line with specifications, designs, and requirements.
  • Advise progress and KPI status in a timely manner to the management team, particularly potential cost, and schedule or quality variances.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly reporting to produce accurate and timely information that can clearly convey the status of safety, cost, schedule, and quality for the construction works.
  • Participate in formal cost and schedule reviews to support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Oversee the Requests for Information (RFI) and Technical Query (TQ) process. Keep and maintain a register.
  • Establish KPl's for construction activities and schedule weekly progress measurement
  • Proactively control the construction activities to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns.
  • Communicate accurate and timely construction schedule delivery, progress, cost, and quality.
  • Ensure monitoring and data collection to demonstrate execution of the construction works on all phases of the works in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site's Environmental Management Plan
  • Maintain meeting records, agreed actions, and follow up to ensure actions are completed
  • Inspect and review site safety management implementation to comply with the Safety Management System.
  • Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations.

 

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

 

Qualification / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering / BSc. Architectural Engineering or equivalent with 3 – 5 years related experience OR
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering /Architectural Engineering or equivalent with 5 -10 years related experience.
  • An experienced Civil Engineer in preferably, architectural, civil, structural and earthworks designs and construction.
  • Advanced Theoretical and Practical Knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit Architecture, Protostructures, Solid works, Civil 3D.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license from either the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH).

  • Strong understanding of contract law and procurement processes
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Analytical and detail-oriented
  • Proficiency in contract management software
  • Safety and Health Know-how.
