OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- To manage technical support and ensure the availability of security systems through maintenance of existing systems and installation of new systems.
- To ensure peak performance of security systems and support the successful implementation of the security management plan for the Mine.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintain all systems and equipment in good working order.
- Implement and maintain work schedules for planned maintenance, regular inspections, daily repairs and service, and job assignments.
- Analyse system efficiency through continuous evaluation of system availability and additional requirements for optimisation.
- Define, develop, optimise and administer system procedures.
- Implement contingency plans in case of emergency or systems failure.
- Use technology and physical checks to identify hazards and ensure safety risks are reported and escalated in a timely manner.
- Adhere to Health and Safety regulations within the workplace and attend departmental Safety meetings regularly.
- Perform regular inspections and audits in accordance with established specifications.
- Ensure equipment operates at 100% efficiency and availability through regular inspections and reporting repair and service requirements to the Security Systems Administrator.
- Ensure 98% availability of cameras, access control and intruder alarm units through routine maintenance.
- Test and repair defective cameras, access control units, network connectivity, power issues, intruder alarm units and radios.
- Conduct effective testing and checks to mitigate false alarms at all alarm locations.
- Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, floors and other areas as required.
- Examine systems to locate problems such as loose connections or broken insulation.
- Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces and cavity walls, and position and terminate cables, wires and strapping.
- Inspect installation sites and review work orders, building plans and installation manuals to determine material requirements and installation approach.
- Install, maintain and repair security systems, alarm devices and related equipment in line with electrical layouts and building plans.
- Mount and fasten control panels, contacts, sensors, video cameras and connect electrical or network wiring to components.
- Mount raceways and conduits and fasten wires to wood or metal framing.
- Identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software and basic network related problems.
- Perform installation, maintenance, modification and repair work on security systems.
- Repair access control, CCTV, electronic devices and intruder alarm systems to maintain the electronic security system.
- Correct malfunctions to restore equipment to established standards.
- Perform standby and after-hours tasks as required to keep all systems fully functional.
- Maintain records of equipment installed in SEMS.
- Conduct periodic maintenance of security equipment and work areas.
- Test backup batteries, alarm panels, programming keypads, sirens and all security features to ensure proper functioning and diagnose malfunctions.
- Submit monthly technical reports on new installations, defective systems, stock levels, repairs and maintenance to the System Administrator.
- Ensure regular data backup for system contingencies.
- Ensure operators receive required training on new software related to the job.
- Ensure procedures for system handling are in place and visible to end users.
- Co-ordinate inventories and listings of all equipment and materials in the control room, plant, equipment rooms, technicians office, workshops and store room.
- Implement and maintain relevant logbooks and registers pertaining to the job.
- Submit monthly reports on control room operations, systems, equipment and material utilisation, as well as repairs, maintenance and relocations.
- Ensure daily checks on faulty equipment are logged into SEMS and actioned.
- Ensure daily updates on maintenance schedules and SEMS are completed.
- Ensure on-the-job training for subordinates.
- Train subordinates in the operation and utilisation of systems and equipment.
- Co-ordinate manpower planning and training of systems operators.
- Develop and maintain development plans for operators and technicians.
- Attend all scheduled training sessions and training courses when nominated.
- Attend scheduled Security meetings when required.
- Promote organisational values including responsible behaviour, respect, honesty and integrity.
- Maintain the mental and physical fitness required to perform the job.
- Liaise daily with junior personnel, Systems technicians and the Systems Superintendent on issues of importance.
- Ensure communication with colleagues and stakeholders is professional at all times.
- Maintain confidentiality on all systems, including passwords and data.
- Ensure passwords are regularly changed in line with procedure.
- Be responsible for the master password and its allocation.
- Ensure all system passwords are sealed and secured in a lockable safe.
- Identify and report all Safety and Health hazards.
- Adhere to all Safety and Health regulations.
- Ensure familiarity with site-specific emergency evacuation procedures.
- Ensure availability of emergency contact numbers.
- Promote Safety and Health in the workplace with a view of zero tolerance.
- Conduct pre-use inspections and complete relevant registers.
- Utilise and maintain provided PPE at all times.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, System Engineering or equivalent.
- Computer Science or a Diploma in systems software is an added advantage.
- Completed an Electronic Security Qualification with all specialist elective modules.
Experience
- Three to five years' Security Systems experience or other technical exposure in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 2 years field technical experience supporting network systems, including CCTV surveillance, access control, intruder alarm systems and Information Technology infrastructure.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of the laws of Ghana and legal codes, relevant equipment, policies and procedures relating to the role.
- Ability to engage with different disciplines across various levels of the workforce, including management.
