OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
To assist the Operations Superintendent – Security and Director: Security and Human Rights in managing a team to ensure the maintenance of law and order and the safeguarding of the Company’s assets, including life and property, within the Mine’s operational and auxiliary areas.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Act on behalf of the manager within the boundaries and context provided.
- Provide the Security Superintendent – Operations with work-related information regarding individuals within the team and any obstacles that may hinder performance.
- Ensure all security staff are trained in accordance with the training needs analysis, including VPSHR, search and arrest, rapid response, investigations, Mining Security Officer, and surveillance.
- Execute security objectives as defined by the Security Superintendent – Operations.
- Coordinate the administration of security functions, including administration and permits, within the area of accountability.
- Ensure adherence to programmes for safety and security awareness and protection.
- Ensure proper access controls at all times.
- Ensure proper searches at access points.
- Report all security-related incidents to the Security Superintendent – Operations.
- Ensure proper supervision and patrols in all areas of concern.
- Supervise and report on the performance of security guards, including patrols, searches, and technology utilization, on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Ensure proper training and supervision of security guards.
- Ensure manpower availability 24/7 and report any challenges for immediate redress.
- Provide guards with clear role descriptions and post instructions to ensure understanding of assigned tasks.
- Implement policies and procedures within the area of responsibility according to departmental standards.
- Ensure formal and informal inspections are conducted by guards based on the situation.
- Perform audits and risk assessments in areas of responsibility to ensure compliance and standardization.
- Implement appropriate procedures to ensure good housekeeping and loss control in areas of responsibility.
- Pass on information from superiors to guards and from guards to superiors.
- Ensure work is conducted in a safe manner.
- Ensure the working elements of the Safety Management System, including inspections and audits, are in compliance.
- Ensure prompt reporting of all injuries, illness, and safety incidents.
- Coach the team in the safe execution of tasks on shift to reduce significant hazards towards zero lost time injuries.
- Promote health and safety at the workplace with a view of zero tolerance.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Security-related degree or diploma is advantageous.
- As instituted by in-country specific legislative requirements.
Experience
- Preferable knowledge and understanding of security.
Knowledge & Skills
- Must have a valid driving license.
- Demonstrate effective knowledge of Safety, Health and Environment procedures in and around the workplace, including PPE requirements and housekeeping standards.
- Demonstrate knowledge and application of ethical conduct.
- Demonstrate knowledge of security methods, procedures, and practices and their application to specific situations, including search and arrest procedures, statement taking, explosives and weapons, manning of access points, and risk assessments.
