OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

  • Support the specialist geologist-production to execute precise geological face and structural mapping, support short-term grade control, and drive technical governance to optimize ore extraction while upholding world-class safety standards.
  • Systematically collate, organize and interpret relevant geological and operational data from the orebodies and mining operations to improve working standards within the Geology Department and identify opportunities that add value to the operation.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Complete critical controls verification and reviews, supervisor workplace visits and inspections, positive and hazard observation and reporting, and planned task observations.
  • Achieve 100% compliance with set OHS KPIs and ensure direct reports also comply with the same requirements.
  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure controls are in place before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents, support investigations, and ensure corrective actions assigned to the role or under its jurisdiction are completed on time.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and improve safety, health, environmental and sustainable development culture across the Production Geology department and own team.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory compliance and maintain document control, while ensuring safety requirements are monitored and controlled for assurance and certification readiness.
  • Coordinate incident investigations, hazard reporting, and risk management for mine geology programmes, including safety, permitting, environment, cultural heritage and community considerations.
  • Be accountable for the team’s environmental obligations and performance.
  • Conduct formal meetings with the team and report weaknesses in environmental procedures.
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures issued by the Departmental Manager.
  • Investigate environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission.
  • Attend all scheduled and assigned environmental training meetings and act on employee environmental complaints and suggestions.
  • Collate and assess measurable KPIs for drilling contractors’ performance.
  • Ensure drilling summary reports and electronic plods are received daily by 12 noon.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly drilling reports on time.
  • Upload updated data into the Geology Information Management System.
  • Continually engage drilling contractors to submit all downhole survey data for completed drillholes.
  • Perform end-of-shift variance analysis, identify issues that impacted production, and define mitigation measures.
  • Support precise underground geological face and structural mapping and interpretation of underground data.
  • Work with peers within the department and Technical Services to receive, assign and execute geology-related tasks.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • BSc Hons or MSc in Geology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences, Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • All site-specific safety and other training applicable to the role.
  • Hazard and Risk Management training.

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant working experience.
  • Knowledge of underground mapping and interpretation of underground data.
  • Exposure to diamond drilling techniques, including semi-directional and or directional drilling.
  • Exposure to mining operations, particularly underground narrow vein mining operations.
  • Practical exposure to Exploration Geology.
  • Experience in underground mapping.
  • Experience in mining operations, particularly underground narrow vein and nuggetty mining operations.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Basic working knowledge of Datamine, Leapfrog and Century System software to represent mapped data.
  • Intermediate knowledge in Leapfrog and Datamine software.
  • Ability to design, coordinate and monitor integrated schedule.
  • Knowledge in underground geological mapping, plotting and interpretation of data.
  • Project management capability.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communicator with good presentation skills.
  • Good experience in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
  • Basic understanding of Safety Leadership.
