ROLE PURPOSE
To drive to co-operation with the Regional Local Content Specialist, local economic development through local spending for the business unit by facilitating and establishing local partnerships with multi-nationals and identifying business opportunities with existing local businesses.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Accountable for behaviours consistent with AngloGold Ashanti's Mission, Vision and Values. Identify all local businesses and qualify the product and/or services provided to establish an active database.
- Promotes a safety and health culture amongst employees
- Contributes to Operational Excellence, delivering sustainable performance improvements through leadership, discipline and process
- Ensure compliance with legal and compliance practices in its area of accountability
- Develop & maintain effective working relationships and cross-functionally with procurement and sourcing originators to identify opportunities and implement actions and performance to achieve identified opportunities
- Identify local businesses with potential for growth and provide support through funding and development training, enabling them to become competitive and credible suppliers to the operations.
- Identify all local businesses and qualify the product and/or services provided to establish an active database.
- Assist to identify product and services procured from international and local multinational companies and assess the ability of local companies to provide the regional operations with the products or services. Conduct commercial analysis and assessment of the local companies.
- Assist to identify opportunities for spend to be redirected immediately to local companies and if not immediate, identify the requirements for the development, training, funding or technical facilitation necessary to achieve local company supply.
- Assist to drive community opportunities identified and developed by the region to result in commercial supply.
- Accountable to provide input into the annual Local Procurement Plans and provide quarterly reports on how the Business Unit (BU) is tracking against the agreed plans
- Assist with the engagement of relevant local community heads in driving local development initiates
- Accountable for BU reporting on local content regulations and targets
- Accountable to remain updated on local content regulations and communicate any changes to the business and advise the impact of such changes to the business
- Educate key stakeholders on the local content regulations and the impact on how we conduct our business
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification
- Bachelor’s qualification, preferably in Business, Commercial, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, or Accounting
- Post Graduate Qualification is a strong preference
Experience
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience in local content/supplier development
- Strong track record in business improvement and change management
Legal/Regulatory
- Knowledge of the Minerals and Mining (Local Content and Local Participation) Regulations, 2020 (L.I. 2431) and the associated Local Procurement List
Technical Competencies
- Leadership and presentation skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite software including Excel, Word and PowerPoint; MS Project experience is beneficial
- Ability to communicate in English - written and oral
- Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking
- Commercial acumen relevant to the role
- Preparedness to take a well-reasoned stand on matters of importance
- Negotiations and influencing skills
Other Competencies
- High level understanding of Incoterms and import process
- High level spend and financial analysis capability
- High level understanding mining industry activities
- Experience and knowledge of SAP ECC
