OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

  • The Supervisor, CIC - Surface is accountable for the monitoring and control of output of the Surface CIC operations and maintenance team to standard through the application of operational policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimise operational risks in order to meet the business strategic objective.
  • The role is accountable for ensuring the CIC-Surface refurbishment and later maintenance team delivers safe, productive and efficient operational output, and for coordinating and controlling refurbishment and maintenance of CIC aspects of the Surface infrastructure so equipment is maintained to original equipment manufacturer standards and handed over fit for purpose in a timely manner.
  • The role holder monitors team performance against key performance indicators and provides informative and timely reports to management on the performance and status of the maintenance department.
  • The role supports the maintenance department goal to reduce costs, improve reliability and sustain operational improvement initiatives through implementation and execution of the AGA Asset Management Plan.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Ensure compliance with safety leading indicators and total quality management principles, and lead by example to create a safe working environment where risks are assessed and managed.
  • Use inspections, audits, JHA and other elements of the Safety Management System and ensure compliance by self and team.
  • Assist with timely investigation of injuries, illness and incidents and develop action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Carry out planned task observations, major hazard standards implementation, positive and hazard observation and reporting, and workplace visits and inspections.
  • Adhere to the site Environmental Management Plan and implement maintenance and operational activities in accordance with Government of Ghana conditions of approval and the site Aspect Register.
  • Coordinate the review of the Aspect Register related to the section.
  • Gather information for the CIC Supt-Surface & UG for performance reporting.
  • Manage team members using AGA's How we Work guidelines to improve productivity.
  • Prepare training and development plans for approval through the Engineering Superintendent Surface E&I and execute approved plans.
  • Provide guidance to subordinates in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance.
  • Set CIC requirements within supervisors' skills matrices and initiate corrective action where skill deficiencies are identified and escalated.
  • Support the CIC Supt-Surface & UG on all CIC works and training.
  • Conduct periodic audits of CIC infrastructure during refurbishment and maintenance.
  • Conduct reviews of refurbishment and later maintenance of Surface CIC aspects to identify actions for continuous improvement.
  • Assist the CIC Engineer to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for CIC infrastructure equipment.
  • Execute refurbishment and later maintenance work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
  • Monitor the general physical condition of CIC assets and report.
  • Monitor and ensure preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Generate work requests in SAP for refurbishment and maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis processes for CIC equipment.
  • Assist with compilation and updating of SOPs based on new CIC control and network systems for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all CIC personnel on Surface are trained in new or updated SOPs.
  • Coordinate and ensure effective implementation of the provisions in LI2182 relating to control, instrumentation and communication.
  • Carry out simulations on alterations and additions of applicable CIC equipment and approve them before installation.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate training sessions are organised with the Engineering Training Coordinator on gaps identified in Surface CIC maintenance work.
  • Ensure training is compliant, supports operational requirements of the CIC team and is delivered at optimum cost.
  • Provide on the job training for CIC employees in control, communication and network systems and installations on Surface areas.
  • Ensure OEM and vendor training is carried out for the site operational team for all new or refurbished installations as part of redevelopment projects.
  • Coordinate with the Training section to provide internal and external technical training.
  • Identify, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
  • Propose cost saving projects.
  • Communicate relevant financial detail to direct reports according to each individual's level to ensure understanding of budget goals and obligations.
  • Execute work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain optimised CIC operation of Surface facilities and infrastructure within the approved schedule and monitor critical intermediate milestones.
  • Monitor equipment performance on the asset health system and take proactive measures to address symptoms of potential failure.
  • Report directly to the CIC Supt-Surface & UG on issues and identify and execute improvement projects.
  • Stop any unsafe work and issue safety related instructions to employees at the workplace.
  • Initiate action against subordinates for unsafe behaviour and stop equipment from operating if there is high risk or unsafe condition.
  • Initiate troubleshooting requirements for CIC faults and make recommendations for system improvement.
  • Execute condition monitoring and routine checks including visual checks, vibration data collection, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, and simple NDT data collection.
  • Analyse and trend predictive maintenance data to determine plant condition and report for action.
  • Gather vibration and other condition monitoring data to diagnose and troubleshoot rotating machinery problems.
  • Develop shift plans, ensure safe workplace conditions and efficiently allocate skills, materials, tools and services.
  • Assign individual tasks to team members, communicate the daily plan and conduct effective shift handovers.
  • Provide job clarity and skill requirements, especially on urgent work.
  • Execute and adjust the daily plan to meet targets.
  • Approve work orders, close out work packages and report shift performance against the daily plan.
  • Communicate non-conformance of the plan to the CIC Supt-Surface & UG and provide feedback on work executed with recommendations for improvement.
  • Generate job cards for additional work.
  • Provide input and support in establishing and maintaining WBS, budget, schedule and construction work packs for refurbishment activities.
  • Respond to RFIs and TQs and review and approve appropriate technical and non-technical documentation.
  • Review and provide input into relevant plans including health, safety, quality and commissioning.
  • Work with the planning team to create and update bills of materials, PM sheets, parts lists, long term material plans, work packages and backlog.
  • Attend the maintenance pre-scheduling meeting and provide input to the draft schedule using the action log from the crew schedule review.
  • Comply with relevant legislation, applicable codes, best practice, industry and AGAG standards, AGAG quality systems, policies, procedures and processes, and internal project requirements.
  • Attend key review meetings and engineering meetings as required of a CIC Supervisor-Surface.
  • Develop and set up a mine reporting system communicated to the CIC Supt-Surface & UG level based on data validity and role relevance.
  • Maintain a regular SAP asset maintenance management system operational readiness interface and handover meeting.
  • Participate in formal cost and schedule reviews to support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Coordinate refurbishment work with contractor time plans and escalate real or potential delays.
  • Participate in internal and external construction audits as required.
  • Develop a CIC audit plan for the Surface CIC aspects.
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory audits and inspections.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve cost, schedule, quality and safety outcomes in engineering and mining activities related to Surface CIC aspects.
  • Provide technical CIC input into the development of commissioning plans.
  • Plan refurbishment and construction labour and resources in the area of accountability to support commissioning.
  • Inspect refurbishment works to ensure delivery in accordance with applicable designs, specifications and expectations.
  • Oversee witness inspections and testing to ensure quality and performance are in line with obligations and expectations.
  • Proactively identify and manage change to avoid potential cost, schedule and quality issues.
  • Agree and define all change management for the Controls, Instrumentation and Communication unit in the Surface engineering department.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in engineering, or
  • Diploma in Engineering in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering in accordance with Reg. 51 and 54 LI2182 with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • Technician Part III Certificate with 5 years of experience in engineering operations.
  • Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission.
  • Must be a professionally certified engineer with a recognised certification body.

 

Experience

 

  • Experience as CIC maintenance personnel, preferably in the extractive industry.
  • Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of SAP PM module.
  • Experience in radio and telephone communication installations and troubleshooting.
  • Experience in contractor management.
