OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

• The Supervisor, Electrical - Underground is accountable for planning, monitoring and controlling the work output to standard of all low and medium voltage electrical aspects of Underground Infrastructure, including maintenance and electrical distribution, through the application of operational supervisory policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimise operational risks in order to meet the business strategic objective.
• The role is accountable for ensuring the Underground electrical maintenance team delivers safe, productive and efficient operational output, and for coordinating and controlling the refurbishment and maintenance of low and medium voltage electrical aspects of the Underground Infrastructure on site so that equipment is maintained to original equipment manufacturer standards and handed over in a timely manner, fit for purpose, to the mining operations team for safe and efficient use.
• The role holder will monitor that the team meets set key performance indicator targets and provide informative and timely reports to management on the performance and status of the maintenance department.
• The immediate goal of the role is to reduce costs, improve reliability and sustain operational improvement initiatives after the implementation of the Redevelopment Project through the implementation and execution of the AGA Asset Management Plan.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Work according to total quality management principles and ensure zero defect objectives and safety.
• Deliver the Safety Management Plan element of the section and ensure compliance to safety leading indicators.
• Lead by example to create a safe working environment where risks are assessed and managed so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
• Use working elements such as inspections, audits and JHA of the Safety Management System and ensure compliance individually and across the team.
• Assist with timely investigation of all injuries, illness and incidents, with action plans developed to prevent recurrence.
• Identify safety training needs and provide safety training to enable personnel to safely perform their designated work.
• Implement Major Hazard Standards, carry out positive and hazard observation and reporting, and undertake workplace visits and inspections.
• Adhere to the site Environmental Management Plan.
• Implement maintenance and operational activities in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site's Aspect Register related to the section.
• Coordinate the review of the Aspect Register related to the section.
• Gather information for the Electrical Superintendent - Underground for reporting performance.
• Using AGA's How we Work guidelines, clearly define the roles and accountabilities of subordinates.
• Support the development and execution of training and development plans.
• Communicate policies and procedures in a manner that achieves full understanding and compliance.
• Provide guidance to subordinates in leadership techniques to achieve maximum performance.
• Support setting the electrical requirements within supervisors' skills matrices and initiate corrective action where skill deficiencies are identified and escalated.
• Develop an appropriate succession plan for key positions with the correct supportive development plan.
• Ensure Individual Development Plans are 90% compliant.
• Conduct periodic audits of all Underground electrical infrastructure during refurbishment and maintenance.
• Conduct reviews of the refurbishment and maintenance of Underground low and medium voltage infrastructure to identify actions for continuous improvement.
• Assist the Electrical Superintendent - Underground to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment.
• Execute refurbishment and maintenance work checks on a routine scheduled basis, including visual checks and electrical tests.
• Analyse and trend predictive maintenance data such as vibration and IR to determine plant condition and report this condition for action.
• Monitor the general physical condition of plant assets and report findings.
• Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
• Generate work requests in SAP as required for refurbishment and maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to established schedules and plant requirements.
• Gather information and other data collected in order to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems.
• Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis processes for electrical equipment as required.
• Assist with the compilation and updating of SOPs based on the new CIC control and network systems.
• Ensure all CIC personnel are trained in new or updated SOPs.
• Coordinate and ensure effective implementation of all the provisions in LI2182 relating to Electrical.
• Carry out simulations on alterations and additions of applicable and relevant Electrical and CIC equipment and approve same before installations.
• Monitor and ensure adequate training sessions are organised in collaboration with the Engineering Training Coordinator on gaps identified in all electrical work carried out by the Underground maintenance team on all electrical equipment.
• Ensure training is compliant and supports the operational requirements of the Electrical team at optimum cost.
• Provide on the job training for the team in various electrical maintenance tasks.
• Achieve power availability to support operations, with internal availability of power at 98% of plan.
• Ensure power consumption achieves the budgeted power consumption target to support operations.
• Identify, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
• Propose cost saving projects.
• Communicate relevant financial detail to subordinates at each individual's level to ensure understanding of obligations to meet budget goals.
• Execute work in a timely manner.
• Coordinate refurbishment work contractors to the time plan and escalate real or potential delays.
• Monitor equipment performance on the asset health system and take proactive measures to address symptoms of potential failure.
• Report directly to the Electrical Superintendent - Underground on issues and identify and execute improvement projects.
• Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or it is unsafe to be used.
• Initiate troubleshooting requirements for electrical faults.
• Make recommendations for system improvement.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering /Technology with minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or
• Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering/ Technology with minimum of 5years of relevant experience or
• Electrical Technician Part III Certificate with 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering operations.
• Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC) is preferred.
• Professional Engineering license from either the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH) is preferred.

Experience

• An experienced Electrical maintenance personnel, preferably, in underground low and medium voltage Infrastructure/installations, underground fixed & mobile plant infrastructure, dewatering systems, conveyors and power distribution at underground with supervisory skills and experience.
• Possess leadership, team management, problem-solving, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills through work experience and courses
• Knowledge of SAP PM module.
• Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
• Mid-level professional overseeing engineering teams and ensuring project completion

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical infrastructure maintenance and electrical distribution in an underground environment.
• Knowledge of original equipment manufacturer standards for maintenance and refurbishment.
• Knowledge of safety management system working elements including inspections, audits and JHA.
• Knowledge of the site Environmental Management Plan and Aspect Register requirements related to the section.
• Knowledge of condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment.
• Ability to execute routine scheduled work checks including visual inspections and electrical tests.
• Ability to analyse and trend predictive maintenance data such as vibration and IR to determine plant condition.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical problems.
• Knowledge of maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis processes for electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of SOP compilation and updating for electrical systems.
• Knowledge of SAP work request generation for refurbishment and maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Knowledge of LI2182 provisions relating to Electrical.
• Ability to carry out simulations on alterations and additions of electrical equipment before installation.
• Ability to coordinate training, provide on the job training and support compliance of the electrical team.
• Ability to monitor KPIs, power availability, power consumption, asset health and departmental performance.
• Ability to identify cost reduction initiatives, propose cost saving projects and communicate financial obligations to subordinates.
• Ability to report issues and execute improvement projects.
