Role Description: Probe Density Measurements Technician
Location: Siguiri Gold Mine, Guinea
Reports to: Geology Superintendent / Senior Geologist
Purpose of the Role:
The Probe Density Measurements Officer is responsible for planning, supervising, validating, and managing in-situ density measurement activities across mining and exploration operations. This position ensures that density data collected from drill holes, trenches, and exposed surfaces is accurate, reliable, and integrated efficiently into geological and resource models.
A critical part of the role is also to enforce strict radiation safety protocols and maintain high data quality standards across all field operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Management:
- Develop, schedule, and execute density probe measurement programs in coordination with mine geology, resource geology, and metallurgical teams.
- Assign tasks and supervise technicians during fieldwork, ensuring safe and effective operations.
- Manage probe calibration schedules and ensure all equipment is operational and certified.
2. Data Quality and Reporting:
- Review, validate, and correct field measurement data for consistency and technical accuracy.
- Apply corrections for borehole conditions (e.g., hole diameter, water presence).
- Integrate validated density data into geological databases and resource modeling software.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and project-specific density reports, highlighting anomalies and trends.
3. Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with radiation protection standards and site-specific HSE requirements.
- Conduct regular radiation audits and inspections at field sites.
- Maintain detailed records of radiation exposure levels, equipment calibrations, and incidents.
- Train technicians on safe handling, transport, and use of radioactive sources.
4. Equipment Management:
- Conduct regular inspections and basic maintenance of density probe equipment.
- Manage the inventory of radiation sources, ensuring correct storage and handling.
- Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for probe servicing and recalibration.
5. Technical Development:
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance measurement accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to the upskilling of field technicians through technical mentoring and formal training sessions.

Technical Skills |
- Strong knowledge of in-situ density measurement methods (gamma-gamma density probe, nuclear probes). |
Radiation Safety |
Formal radiation safety training (e.g., Radiation Safety Officer certification) is highly desirable. |
HSE Awareness |
Proven commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards, especially radiation protection. |
Analytical Skills |
Ability to validate large datasets, identify inconsistencies, and correct data gaps. |
Communication Skills |
Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of writing technical reports and presenting to stakeholders. |
Language Skills |
English proficiency (mandatory). French proficiency (advantageous for Guinea context). |
Certifications (Preferred) |
