AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The purpose of the Risk and Technical Specialist role is to optimize the security technology deployed, and to build and appropriately upskill the technical security unit at Obuasi into a formidable team capable of fulfilling its mandate.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
  • Accountable for team’s environmental obligations and performances.
  • Conduct formal meetings with team and report any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
  • Develop comprehensive technical security plans, based on threat/ risk assessments and operational needs, that supports the overall security management plan.
  • Collaborate with operational security teams, including other functions, to ensure fit for purpose security measures are identified and implemented that will remove people from risk and risk from people.
  • Take the leading role in the planning, implementation, and quality control of all technical security projects.
  • Implement and maintain processes to measure the performance and effectiveness of the technical security systems/ controls, and ensure appropriate plans are in place to address lower performance and ineffective systems.
  • Ensure the availability of adequate resources to manage the security systems and technology.
  • Manage the approved budget for Security Systems and Technology and perform regular cost analysis and cost control exercises to stay within the annual budget or internal targets.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce cost or improve the cost efficiency of Security Operations.
  • Contribute to the forecasting of budget cycle requirements.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

 

Qualification

  • A bachelor’s degree in security and/or Risk Management or related fields

Experience

  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience of which five (5+) years should be at a management level with substantial knowledge and experience in a mining operations, Security Administration and Investigation, Risk management, Metallurgy, Community Relations and/or associated business field in a management capacity.

 

Technical Competencies

  • Experience in planning and executing security operations mitigating risk and lawful application of all investigative needs.
  • Knowledge in developing crime management plans and implementation of mitigating plans.
  • Proven experience in project management of projects with a high level of complexity.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Conflict management, Mentorship & coaching
  • Sound understanding of the mining value chain and impacts of Security Management
  • Demonstrated capacity to interpret data and successfully action sound short-term tactical decisions
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role
