HME Superintendent – Track Equipment

 

STATUM LEVEL:

II - H

ROLE PURPOSE

As the HME Superintendent, reporting to the HME Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for the safety and productivity of the Mobile Maintenance team, inclusive off all contractors in your area of responsibility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Safety Health and Environment

In your area of responsibility, you will be expected to provide support to the maintenance Manager in SAG established health and safety policies, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts in the applicable jurisdiction.

•           Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

•           Support safety initiative in your working area.

•           Support safety initiatives and safety officers deployed in the department.

•           Support safety reps and ensure they are involved in investigation and inspection process

•           Apply consequence management procedure to ensure we create a “JUST SAFETY” culture on site.

  1. Work Accountabilities:
  • Ensure that all maintenance is performed in a safe and cost-effective manner through the efficient use of available resources (personnel and equipment).
  • Work collaboratively with the wider Mobile Maintenance department and other departments, such as Drilling operations, Supply, Training and Development, Technical Services and Contract departments to achieve all objectives as directed.
  • Ensure that all staff conduct themselves in a safe manner in accordance with company policies, procedures and benchmark a ‘Take 5’ and Duty of Care safety focus.
  • Participate in the skills development training and succession planning program for National employees.
  • Apply industry best practice preventative maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Minimize the impact of unplanned maintenance on mining and plant production targets.
  • Investigate possible bottlenecks, areas of concern, existing practices, and source engineering solutions to benefit equipment availability. Must be dependable, dedicated to getting the job done correctly, and use time wisely.
  • Adopt a problem-solving attitude to new situations and challenges.
  • Ability to satisfactorily work with others respectfully and professionally in a team environment, and provide reasonable instructions, training, and supervision.
  • Organise and supervise the mobile maintenance resources and activities to meet the mining targets.
  • Keep the Heavy Mobile Equipment fleet to OEM standard and condition.
  • Ensure that availability targets are met.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are followed by mobile maintenance personnel to OEM specifications and assist with the development of training programs where gaps exist.
  • Ensure quality control measures are in place and followed for all aspects of the mobile maintenance section.
  • Ensure operations are carried out safely and efficiently in accordance with statutory and safety standards.

Support and promote the training and development of National Employees

3.         Planning and Execution of Plant Projects

Take a lead role in the planning and execution of major plant projects which includes:

• Stay in Business Capital Projects

• All other major equipment replacement projects e.g. equipment replacements

• Identifying business improvement opportunities within the maintenance function

4.         Cost Control

Provide direct support in the:

• Management of the monthly budget as set out by management

• Reviewing costs monthly and do a reconciliation

• General cost awareness and drive to reduce cost in each section

5.         Training and Development :

Drive the training and development of maintenance staff by:

• Identifying development needs of all artisans and develop the training matrix, in collaboration with the plant training officer

• Conducting training of artisans on the machining equipment at the main workshop.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience maintaining mobile and mining equipment.
  • At least 7 years’ experience managing a maintenance team at Superintendent level in a developing country (preferably Africa).
  • Possess a formal maintenance / mechanical qualification with experience in maintenance planning and various types of equipment.
  • Experienced using a CMMS to provide accurate prediction of future activities and costs.
  • SAP experience will be preferred.
  • Driver’s License
  • CAT Components rebuild workshop management experience
  • Strong CAT technical knowledge and experience
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft office
  • Prior experience on all facets of Mobile equipment Maintenance.
  • HME Engineering background.
  • Heavy equipment industry experience.
  • Strong communication skills in English (French is an asset) to effectively interact with employees.
  • Sense of urgency.
