ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI (IDUAPRIEM) LIMITED (A subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited) operate the combine Teberebie and Iduapriem open-pits gold mines at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and has a work force of over 1400, including contractors.

POSITION:                                        OFFICER-OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE   

 

JOB GRADE:                                    STRATUM I – MID

 

DEPARTMENT:                                 HSE

 

NUMBER OF POSITION(S):             ONE (1)

 

Role Purpose

 

To work directly with employees in the workplace to ensure health hazards are properly controlled.

 

Role Accountabilities

 

 Conduct routine sampling and monitoring of airborne hazards including dust, welding fumes, diesel particulate matter, and airborne lead.

 

  • Collect and document field data using approved sampling techniques and equipment.
  • Perform personal noise monitoring to evaluate employee exposure levels.
  • Analyze trends and support development of noise reduction strategies.
  • Conduct whole-body vibration and radiation exposure assessments.
  • Carry out regular ergonomic evaluations to recommend workplace adjustments.
  • Coordinate and oversee biological monitoring programs such as blood lead testing.
  • Ensure compliance with medical surveillance and reporting requirements.
  • Conduct routine illumination assessments including nocturnal light level measurements to ensure workplace lighting is adequate and compliant.
  • Support and participate in health risk assessments.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of exposure control measures.
  • Verify the implementation and effectiveness of critical controls to prevent occupational health exposures.
  • Conduct compliance audits on the use of noise and respiratory protection devices.
  • Ensure cleanliness and functionality of the hygiene and dust laboratories, including the weighing facility.
  • Maintain occupational hygiene equipment and ensure all instruments are calibrated and in good working order.

 

 Person’s Specification

 

Qualification

 

  • Tertiary qualification (Diploma/Degree) in Occupational Hygiene, Health and Safety, Physical Sciences, Health Sciences, or its equivalent from a recognized institution.

 

 

Experience

 

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role within the mining industry.

 

Other Competencies

 

 Must possess valid Ghanaian Driving License to operate Light Vehicle.

  • Familiarity with OHSAS 18001:2007 implementation
  • Knowledge in occupational health and hygiene standards and regulations.
  • Competent in the handling and usage of occupational hygiene equipment
  • Knowledge health data management
  • Working knowledge in MS office suite.
  • A valid Driver's license and proficiency in driving a light vehicle.
