Applications are invited from suitably qualified employees to fill the role of Senior Officer – Community Relations & ASM in the Sustainability Department.

 

Role Purpose

 

To support the effective implementation of the company’s community relations and Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) engagement strategies aimed at fostering mutual trust, respect, and collaboration between the company, host communities, and artisanal and small-scale miners. The role ensures that the company’s operations align with social performance standards, human rights principles, and relevant regulatory requirements, while promoting sustainable livelihoods and peaceful co-existence within the company’s operational areas.

 

 

Role Accountabilities

 

  • Proactively engage with community members through various channels, such as meetings, events, surveys, and social media, to build trust and rapport.
  • Lead community entry processes for exploration activities and any other activity required by the mine.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to effectively convey Iduapriem’s organization's goals, initiatives, and impact to the community.
  • Monitor community sentiment and identify potential issues or concerns that may arise.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with local organizations and community groups to address shared challenges and achieve mutual goals.
  • Support community development initiatives that align with AngloGold Ashanti’s mission and values
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of community relations initiatives and activities.
  • Participate in all external social audit related to Community and Stakeholder engagement in the mine communities.
  • Support the development and implementation of engagement strategies to enhance and maintain good relationships with Communities, local government, and local NGOs to ensure maximum participation and cooperation.
  • Carry out informal stakeholder expectation analysis and perceptions to inform management about threat and opportunities in the mine communities; and recommend appropriate engagement strategies to manage the situation.
  • Support the development and continuous update of stakeholders register for purposes of engagement.
  • Provides input for the development of stakeholder mapping that identifies different stakeholders and their corresponding interests to guide effective stakeholder engagement.

 

 

Person Specifications

 

Qualification

 

  • Tertiary qualification (Diploma/Degree) in BSc Public Relations, Social Science, Development Studies, Communications, Marketing, Natural Resources Management, Community Development or any related field from a recognized institution.

 

Experience

 

  • 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the mining industry

 

Other Competencies

 

  • Proven experience in external relations, community engagement, public affairs, or a related field, preferably in extractive industry, corporate or non-profit environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Good understanding of local culture and practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to develop and execute complex communication and engagement strategies.
  • Knowledge of public relations, media relations, government relations, and community engagement best practices and techniques.
  • Experience in crisis communication and reputation management is a plus.
  • Must possess valid Ghanain Driving Licence and proficiency to drive light vehicle.
