We are currently recruiting for a Senior Resource Development Geologist, reporting to the Superintendent Resource Development, working within the Tropicana Brownfields Exploration team.
This position is a site based role at our Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8 days on/6 days off FIFO roster, with direct flights from Perth and/or Kalgoorlie.
Role Purpose:
The main accountability of the role of Senior Resource Development Geologist is to manage and drive the resource development programme at Tropicana Gold Mine (and satellite deposits) to achieve outcomes that both increase and de-risk resources. The role encompasses accountabilities for targeting, drill plan development, drill plan execution and subsequent geological modelling of drill programmes inside the Active Mining Area (AMA). A key reason for the creation of the role is to place a greater focus on the interpretation of the geology in the AMA so as to guide the resource model and assist in a more accurate product.
Accountabilities:
- Contribute to and lead the department safety culture. Interacting with contractors and staff in the field to maintain and enhance a safe work environment.
- Developing and maintaining harmonious and productive working relationships with all contractors and colleagues.
- Manage Resource Development Geologists and provide mentoring, training and development which enhances their capability.
- Contractor management and assist in establishing major service contracts.
- Drive and oversee the design and execution of resource development drilling programmes. Underground, Surface and Directional Drilling.
- Ensure high standards of data capture and drive detailed interpretation of geological and mineralisation datasets at the mine scale.
- Produce 3D geology inputs for resource models.
- Develop mine-scale exploration and resource development targets.
- Geology logging of drilling (RC and diamond) and field work as required.
- Management of drill rig and geochemical assay QAQC. Liaise effectively with assay laboratories and drillers to ensure best quality sample and assay results.
- Assay QAQC reporting and monitoring.
- Weekly and monthly reporting.
- Input into financial reporting and budget processes.
About You

- B.Sc (Geology) minimum
- Experience base >5 years as a geologist in Resource Development or Exploration roles. Mine Geologist experience and Underground experience will be highly regarded.
- Previous senior geologist experience. Serious project geologist level candidates with the right experience looking to make the step up, please apply.
- Experience in geological modelling, Leapfrog preferred.
- Excellent interpretive and report writing skills.
- Experience in resource or grade control estimation would be an advantage.
- Must have a current ‘C’ class Manual driver’s licence with 4WD experience.
- Software skills – capable in Office suite, Leapfrog/ Vulcan/Deswik, QGIS, datashed, geobank.
- Able to attain a National Police Clearance
- Existing and ongoing Permanent work rights in Australia. (Mandatory)
