The Obuasi Redevelopment Project has attained its original project schedule to become a modern efficient processing and underground mechanized operation, and it is now moving to achieving study state operation with the final aim of achieving 5000 tonnes per day processing.

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The purpose of the Clerk of Works – Mining Construction is to coordinate and lead the delivery of mining construction projects by overseeing monitoring, inspection, and quality control activities across all construction scopes. This role provides expert advice on construction-related matters to ensure that all projects comply with established implementation principles and methodologies. The position is accountable for delivering projects safely and ensuring they are fit for purpose.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned and ensure timely completion.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
  • Oversee and inspect mining construction works, installations and upgrades to ensure infrastructure complies with AGAG’s requirements, relevant specifications, drawings, and General Arrangements drawings.
  • Manage the production of comprehensive project plans and documentation to ensure projects are executed against a clear set of defined deliverables and milestones.
  • Ensure mining construction installations are presented in a professional manner and fully functional.
  • Ensure adherence to commercial, legal, and financial governance in alignment with AGA standards.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by setting an example and fostering a culture of safety, health, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development within the mining construction team.
  • Ensure reliable processes for managing the technical quality of the Plan of Operations and supporting mining deliverables.
  • Rigorously drive implementation of Mining construction projects while promoting a culture of a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the mining construction team.
  • Provide resourcing and planning support for project execution, ensuring alignment with AngloGold Ashanti’s strategic and business plans.
  • Produce mining construction project documentation and progress reports, including project charters, scope documents, schedules and basis of schedule documents.
  • Manage the mining construction project schedule to meet operational requirements.
  • Lead project teams by defining tasks, ensuring deadlines are understood and adhered to and ensuring that project objectives are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Manage contractors and subcontractors providing mining construction services for the projects and multi -disciplinary work packages, including technical outputs for government and permitting requirements.
  • Address all corrective actions assigned to him/her or under his/her jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

 

Qualification

  • BSc Mining or equivalent Engineering degree (Civil, Mechanical / Electrical, etc.)

 

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in mining construction projects.
  • Project Management PMP Certified is an advantage.
  • Understand key underground mining practices and construction projects and has demonstrated the ability to apply it in optimizing cost and general performance.
  • Ability to use the knowledge to review and qualify payment certificates and manage costs on major projects

 

Legal Requirement

  • Shift Boss certificate of competency is an advantage

 

Technical Competencies

  • Strong knowledge in Mining construction practices and demonstrate ability in managing construction projects
  • Understand key underground mining practices and construction projects and has demonstrated the ability to apply it in optimising cost and general performance.
  • Able to use the knowledge to review and qualify payment certificates and manage costs on major projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Skills in Business improvement and managing change
  • Strategic exposure to business will be an added advantage
