The Opportunity
The Controllership Lead is accountable for ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with Group accounting standards, and continuous process improvements. The candidate will also be pivotal in strengthening of the Controllership Governance, maintaining the Controllership function, resolving complex accounting matters, preparing the financial results for audit readiness and engaging with the external auditors, remediating significant SOX deficiencies, and ensuring cross-functional collaboration to support the ‘One Finance’ vision.
Accountabilities
Manage the Business Unit Controllership function, continuing to drive improvements
- Review General Ledger (GL) entries and journals, ensuring the SAP GL is correct within area of responsibility.
- Identify and account for non-routine accounting transactions ensuring the entries are integrated into the GL and correctly reported on at period end.
- Ensuring integration is achieved with FBP and BU Technical Departments so that critical business issues are correctly reported on at period end.
- Preparation / review of financial reporting calculations and review / approval of journal entries following completion of the calculations.
- Manage the BU Controllership function to ensure all processes and deliverables are completed accurately and per the reporting timelines.
- Perform all quarter end financial reporting tasks and ensure the Group’s reporting requirements are complied with.
- Preparation of the monthly reporting pack and finalization of the financial results in the HFM reporting system.
- Ensure alignment with the AngloGold Ashanti Group Accounting Directives, guidelines and procedures.
- Lead the BUs' contribution with the implementation of HFM, SAP, and US GAAP projects.
- Identify and implement process improvement and standardization opportunities.
- Compile and finalise the statutory financial statements of the Company and clear the statutory financial statements with the external auditors.
- Explain variances following completion of the financial results for a reporting period.
- Complete accounting papers for complex and non-routine accounting transactions.
- Perform ad hoc Controllership tasks as required from time to time.
Maintain the Controllership governance processes
- Coordinate the SOX ongoing requirements of the BU, managing both internal and external audits.
- Remediate significant SOX control and reporting deficiencies.
- Maintain the SOX controls culture within the BU Controllership team.
- Assist with the preparation of the BU audit committee papers and present finance reports.
Develop and improve the BU Controllership capability
- Develop and improve the capabilities of the Controllership team at the BU.
- Train Controllership team members at BU and provide direction on critical and complex tasks.
Maintain and manage the BU relationship with external auditors
- Maintain and manage the relationship with the external auditors.
- Share financial information with the external auditors per the timelines and answer queries raised by the external auditors.
- Maintain the relationship with the external auditors, based on practical open communication, and a focus on the early raising of significant issues or potential reporting issues.
Build an effective relationship with the Africa Regional Controllership team, aligning with the 'One Finance' vision
- Build the relationship between the BU and the Africa Controllership team.
- Work closely with the Africa Controllership team to resolve complex reporting matters.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
- Completed the Chartered Accountant designation or in process to complete.
Experiences
• Eight (8) years’ experience in a management accounting and/or financial reporting roles in the mining industry
• Strong Excel/TM1 skills and systems knowledge (HFM/SAP)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Broad business exposure
• Financial reporting and/ or cost management experience
• Strategic exposure to business
• Performance management
• Team management
• Knowledge of Project Management and implementation of change programs will be beneficial
• Planning of future HR Structures and Core Competences in support of Business Goals is a critical requirement
