The Obuasi Redevelopment Project has attained its original project schedule to become a modern efficient processing and underground mechanized operation, and it is now moving to achieving study state operation with the final aim of achieving 5000 tonnes per day processing.

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The role of the Draftsman – Mining Construction is to provide accurate and detailed technical drawings and design documentation to support the successful planning, execution, and completion of mining construction projects. This role is critical in transforming conceptual designs, engineering specifications, and field data into technical drawings that comply with relevant industry standards and project requirements.

 

The Draftsman ensures all drawings align with construction scopes, environmental considerations (ISO 14001), and occupational health and safety standards (OHSAS 18001). Working closely with Engineers, Project Managers, and construction teams, the Draftsman contributes to the overall integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of project deliverables. In addition, the Draftsman plays an important role in the ongoing revision, management, and control of engineering drawings and documents to ensure they reflect the latest site conditions, regulatory compliance, and project updates

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned and ensure timely completion.
  • Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
  • Prepare accurate mining construction drawings for infrastructure installations, and upgrades in accordance with the project scope.
  • Drive the timely delivery of drawings in alignment with project schedules, ensuring that there are no delays in project implementation due to drafting errors or omissions.
  • Revise and update technical drawing to reflect design changes and site conditions.
  • Report on the status of drafting deliverables, highlighting progress, potential delays, and any issues related to the accuracy or quality of technical drawings, ensuring transparency and effective communication with project stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with project teams to continuously review and refine drawing standards, enhancing quality and efficiency in the drafting process.
  • Provide resourcing and planning support in the development of mining construction drawings, ensuring alignment with project execution standards and contributing to the successful delivery of AngloGold Ashanti’s strategic objectives and business plans.
  • Support continuous improvement by actively participating in feedback loops and suggesting improvements to drafting practices and processes for enhanced project execution.
  • Address all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

 

Qualification

  • BSc Mining or equivalent Engineering degree (Civil, Mechanical / Electrical, etc.)

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in mining or construction operations
  • Understand key underground mining practices and construction projects and has demonstrated the ability to apply it in optimizing cost and general performance.
  • Ability to analyze complex infrastructure, identify potential risks, and propose mitigating actions

 

Technical Competencies

  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of mining construction practices with the ability to support the effective execution of construction projects through accurate technical drawings, coordination with engineering teams, and adherence to project specifications and standards.
  • Understand key underground mining practices and construction projects and has demonstrated the ability to apply it in optimizing cost and general performance.
  • Ability to use the knowledge to review and qualify payment certificates and manage costs on major projects
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Skills in Business improvement and managing change
  • Strategic exposure to business will be an added advantage
