AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine has been redeveloped to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to support KMS Engineering and maintenance teams to ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of equipment and infrastructure within underground mining operations. This role is critical for minimizing equipment downtime, reducing maintenance costs, and supporting smooth and uninterrupted mining operations.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
- Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
- Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
- Accountable for team’s environmental obligations and performances.
- Conduct formal meetings with team and report any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
- Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
- Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative.
- Develop, manage, and schedule preventive and corrective maintenance plans for underground equipment (e.g., drills, loaders, conveyors) and critical infrastructure (e.g., ventilation, electrical systems).
- Ensure maintenance activities are aligned with operational requirements to minimize disruptions.
- Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations and standards.
- Identify potential safety risks associated with maintenance procedures and implement control measures to minimize risks.
- Monitor and analyze equipment performance data to identify recurring issues, optimize maintenance intervals, and extend equipment life.
- Implement maintenance best practices to improve the reliability and availability of critical assets, reducing unexpected breakdowns.
- Manage the maintenance budget by tracking maintenance costs, optimizing resource usage, and planning cost-effective repairs and replacements.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, such as reducing overtime or extending asset life through effective maintenance practices.
- Ensure critical spare parts and consumables are available for scheduled and emergency maintenance.
- Work closely with procurement to manage inventory levels, prevent stockouts, and avoid excess inventory.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, work orders, equipment history, and failure analysis for tracking performance and compliance.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification/Experience
- A Technician Part III Certificate or equivalent with minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience OR Diploma or equivalent Technical trade in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Maintenance, etc.) with minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Applied Sciences with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in planning roles, with experience in complex projects.
Technical Competencies
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of fundamental underground Engineering maintenance management and Operating systems/ applications.
- Demonstrate good verbal and written communications skills with knowledge in basic computer software’s as MS Word, MS Excel, and Power Point and basic knowledge in SAP PM
- Knowledge in underground mining and equipment maintenance and performance analysis/monitoring
- Professional Certificated Engineer with a relevant certification body will be an advantage.
