SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

 

To enhance and protect AngloGold Ashanti’s social license to operate in the US through proactive internal and external communication that is aligned with the company’s strategic objectives, purpose and values.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Develop and execute a proactive communications plan to present AGA and the Nevada project positively in the US and in the communities relevant to the Nevada Project.
  • Create and disseminate impactful content through suitable channels that support the US communications plan, including social media.
  • Develop and implement a US media engagement framework; building constructive relationships with key members of the media. Note that financial media interaction will be managed by group communications.
  • Manage local media interactions, advising leadership, and preparing messaging.
  • Develop and execute US BU social media plan that is aligned with the group social media plan..
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of US external communication initiatives.
  • Monitor emerging issues that may impact the company, escalating them to group communications and BU leadership in a timely manner.
  • Develop a US BU crisis communications plan, in line with the BU's broader crisis management plan and the group communications framework.
  • Coordinate US BU crisis communications, providing advice to BU leadership and seeking input from group communications.
  • Provide material for the suite of annual reports and the AGA website in a timely manner.
  • Work with group communications to establish a US microsite, then maintain up-to-date information on the site to characterise the company in a positive light and support sustainability initiatives and recruitment.
  • Coordinate and provide support for external events such as community meetings, careers fairs and expos.
  • Support group communications initiatives.
  • Draft and distribute US BU internal messages through appropriate channels.
  • Collaborate with the group communications colleagues to share information and ideas.
  • Provide communications support to US BU leadership and functions.
  • Participate in and contribute to communications community of practice.

 

 

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop communications content.
  • Deadline driven with attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of social media channels including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships. 

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience with qualifications in journalism or communication.

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Demonstrated experience as a journalist and/or in an external communications role is desirable. 
  • A comprehensive understanding of mining and exploration, ideally through direct experience in the sector.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

 

COMPENSATION:

Base Salary Range $145,000-$155,000
