Intern: 3D Mine Site Asset Modeler

AngloGold Ashanti's Operational Technology team are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated intern to support the team part-time for a period of four months.

We would like someone with a GeoPhysics, Geo, Engineering or even Video Game/Architecture background who take in data of various types (Engineering, Topographical, Wireframes, Point Clouds, and Block Models, etc), use a platform such as ParaView and create visualizations in order to tell a story around our mine in Ghana, Obuasi. The visuals would be available to multiple people in disparate locations simultaneously in order to facilitate understanding and collaboration. 

Knowledge of, and experience with mines, underground workings, geology shapes and models would be a great asset. 

The intern will work closely with the Senior Manager: Geology, Mine Planning and Mining to deliver a virtual reality (VR) environment of one of AGA's underground mines.

Tasks will include: 

• Compiling all input data required to set up the VR environment. Data may include geographical wireframes, drill holes, topographic data, photogrammetry, mining as-built shapes, mine designs and infrastructure, and any other relevant data in a format compatible with the VR environment.
• Developing professional relationships with key stakeholders supporting the project- the corporate team in Denver, USA, and site-based technical services teams in Ghana.
• Working with a VR vendor to create the environment and troubleshoot any issues that may arise. 

The intern must be organized, detail-oriented, and display an interest in mining, data science and virtual reality. Knowledge of, and experience in a mining environment is highly advantageous.

Qualification and Skills:

• Studying a degree in Geology, Mine Engineering, Geophysics and/or Computer Science.
• Experience in scripting using Python.
• Familiarity with, or previous work experience in mining. 
• Knowledge of geology and/or mine planning workflows.
• Knowledge of a variety of spatial and geo-engineering data/file types.
• Familiarity with virtual reality environments.
• Strong communication skills. 

Compensation: $30.30-$34.60
