ANGLOGOLD ASHANTI (IDUAPRIEM) LIMITED (A subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti Limited) operate the combine Teberebie and Iduapriem open-pits gold mines at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and has a work force of over 1400, including contractors.

The Opportunity 

 

The Manager - Technical Services role is accountable for developing and implementing methods for short-term and long-term planning, optimisation and operational reconciliation in a way that enhances the profitability of the business.


Accountabilities

 

  • Improve and standardize the current mine planning methods, introducing, and developing modern systems and methods to minimize risk, maximize efficiency and improve safety 
  • Review and assess the current and proposed mine planning methods, systems, and output of short-, medium-, and long-term plans. 
  • Strengthen the mine engineering function by introducing and establishing an agreed annual planning cycle for the preparation and review of Five-Year Plans and action programmes. 
  • Coordinate all mine engineering activities, review documentation, and provide technical input and support, as and when required. 
  • Establish and standardize detailed planning and progress reports on an agreed time basis clearly defining actual progress compared to plan and any resultant consequences. 
  • Improve the mine plans and layouts, based on international best practice, to increase efficiency of extraction, minimize risk and improve safety, including identifying and assessing efficiency schemes and projects. 
  • Thoroughly review and assess the current methods and systems that are used to determine the geological exploration Programme. Enhance the exploration Programme to minimize geological risk and give security to the laying out of future workings. 
  • Manage Short and Long term mine plans to maintain the essential link between long-term mine plans and short-term planning.
  • Optimization and operational reconciliation.
  • Reserve reporting in accordance with the approved codes
  • Manage budget and monthly reports and all own cost centers.
  • Design and implementation of OE principles in mining.
  • Undertake all statutory duties in accordance with approved policies and procedures to improve the health and safety performance of the mine. 
  • Work to eliminate all injuries and illnesses through a focus on behaviours, leadership, and risk management.
  • Manage the end-to-end Performance Management process of employees.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of IDPs, talent pool, and succession plan.
  • Support the implementation of site initiatives such as fatigue management, Diversity & Inclusion, wellness programmes and mentorship programmes etc.
  • Identify and report compliance violations and assist with investigations.
  • Build the capacity of team members on compliance-related matters (e.g., communications regarding bribery/corruption, ethics, conflicts of interest, gifts, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mining engineering or its equivalent.

 

Experiences

  • Minimum of Ten (10) years working experience in a similar role within the mining industry
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills 
  • Broad business exposure 
  • Cost management 
  • Strategic exposure to business
  • Performance Management 
  • Team management
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Management and implementation of change programs will be beneficial
  • Planning of future HR Structures and Core Competences in support of Business Goals is a critical requirement
