OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

The Engineer, Geomatics is responsible for acquiring, processing, analysing, and managing high-accuracy spatial and aerial data to support project planning, construction monitoring, compliance, and reporting across ABU projects.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Technical Data Collection: Plan and execute UAV surveys (RGB, LiDAR, Multispectral) and conventional GPS/GNSS surveys to produce DTMs, DSMs, and 3D models.
  • Spatial Analysis: Process raw data into orthophotos and point clouds; perform volume calculations, cut/fill analysis, and progress tracking.
  • Data Governance: Maintain secure, version-controlled spatial repositories and ensure all flight operations meet national aviation regulatory standards.
  • Scheduling & Delivery: Coordinate flight missions to align with construction milestones, ensuring up-to-date spatial intelligence is delivered without disrupting site operations.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or GIS.
  • Licensed/certified UAV operator (Remote Pilot License) - preferred

 

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

 

  • 3-5 years in geomatics or drone-based data collection, ideally within mining or large infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in photogrammetry, GIS software, and surveying QA/QC discipline.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, ethical handling of sensitive community/land data, and the ability to translate complex spatial models into plain language for stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Surpac, Model Maker, Civil 3D
  • Experience carrying out surveys on large tailings dams
