AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine has been redeveloped to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE
The Manager, Labour and Industrial Relations, acts as the pivotal link between the Company and labour unions, setting strategies for labour relations to foster a positive work environment and mitigate risks. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with unions, ensuring compliance with labour legislation and union agreements, and influencing the organizational climate through proactive initiatives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
• Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
• Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
• Labour Relations Strategy: Develop and implement labour relations strategies that align with company goals and enhance the work environment.
• Union Relationship Management: Serve as the primary contact for unions at the enterprise level and managing relationships to support business objectives.
• Compliance and Policy Development: Ensure adherence to labour laws and union agreements, translating these requirements into company policies and procedures.
• Organizational Climate Influence: Actively gather feedback from employees and unions to drive improvements in the work environment through corrective, preventive, and proactive measures.
• Union Operational Visits and Meetings: Conduct regular visits and meetings with union representatives to maintain open lines of communication and address any concerns.
• Labour Risk Mitigation: Identify and address potential labour risks, developing strategies to minimize impact on the company.
• Strategic Relationship Development: Cultivate and enhance relationships with unions and other relevant stakeholders over time, aligning labour relations strategies with long-term business goals.
• Compliance Auditing: Regularly audit company practices for compliance with labour legislation and union agreements, recommending adjustments as needed.
• Policy and Process Implementation: Develop HR policies and processes that reflect current labour laws and best practices in industrial relations.
• Feedback and Improvement Initiatives: Utilize feedback from employees and unions to implement initiatives aimed at improving the work environment.
• Collaboration with Legal Department: Work closely with the Legal Department to ensure all labour relations activities are legally compliant and strategically sound.
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Qualification
• University Degree in HR Management, Industrial Psychology or Social Sciences
Experience
• Five to Seven (5 – 7) years of experience in industrial relations at management level.
• Three (3) years’ experience in a similar or related role within the mining industry is an advantage.
• Solid understanding of union operations and labour relations strategies.
Technical Competencies
• In-depth knowledge of labour laws and regulations.
• Human Resources Functional Knowledge with expertise in Industrial Relations
• Ability to identify opportunities, diagnose problems and develop solutions
Other Competencies
• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to effectively manage union relationships and agreements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with employees, union representatives, and management.
• Analytical skills to assess labour risks and develop strategic mitigation plans and crisis management
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and to make decisions in a manner consistent with established Company policy and Labour and Employment laws
• Ability to inspire and motivate others, promoting Collaboration and Teamwork, developing direct reports.
• Team player
• The ability to build and maintain effective collateral and cross functional working relationship
