AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Production Engineer contributes to the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of underground stope production by preparing and implementing drill and blast designs, conducting structured QAQC, and delivering accurate stope documentation and reconciliation data.
Working within a designated mining block(s), the role integrates drill and blast design, underground validation, and execution assurance to support timely production delivery in alignment with operational schedules and site standards.
The Production Engineer ensures that all designs are technically validated underground prior to execution and that reconciliation processes reflect accurate physical performance.
Block(s) assignments are defined by the Manager – Production in alignment with the latest Life of Mine Plan..
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare and approve stope note designs for drilling and blasting activities
- Deliver drill and charge designs, bogging layouts, remote plans, close-out documentation and reconciliation outputs
- Apply QAQC to production designs and documentation before operational release
- Conduct underground validation to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution
- Reconcile production physicals against forecasts through daily tracking and month-end processes
- Maintain drill stocks and broken stocks registers
- Contribute to drill and blast standards, continuous improvement and production performance
- Support mentoring and capability development within the production engineering team
- Promote a strong safety culture and maintain regular underground presence
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Training or exposure to mine planning and production software (e.g. Deswik CAD, UGDB) is desirable.
- Possession of a recognized professional First Aid Certificate and a MINCOM Underground Blasting Certificate of Competency is highly desirable
- Valid drivers’ licence
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in Mining, of which at least 1year experience in an underground Production/Planning Engineering role.
- Familiarity with underground mining methods, stope design, drill and blast planning, and production tracking processes.
- Exposure to reconciliation processes, variance analysis, and physicals reporting is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Deswik or equivalent software for drill design is desirable.
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to interpret geological and design inputs to produce executable production plans.
- Effective communication and collaboration with technical and operational teams.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
