AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Specialist, Electrical - KMS is accountable for planning, monitoring and controlling the work output to standard of all Electrical aspects of KMS surface and underground infrastructure, through the application of operational engineering policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximize plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.
The role is also accountable for providing technical support to KMS by ensuring best electrical practices are in place to be compliant to statutory and regulatory requirements in line with the company’s operational strategy.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Work according to total quality management principles and ensure zero defect objectives and safety
- Deliver the Safety Management Plan Element of the Section
- Carry out Positive / Hazards Observation and Reporting
- Undertake Workplace Visits / Inspections
- Ensure compliance to Safety leading indicators
- Lead by example to create a safe working environment where risks are assessed and managed
- Use working elements of the Safety Management System and ensure compliance
- Assist with timely investigation of all injuries, illness and incidents
- Identify safety training needs and provide safety training
- Major Hazard Standards implementation
Environment
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
- Implement maintenance and operational activities in accordance with Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site’s Aspect Registe
People
- Gather information for reporting performance
- Clearly define roles and accountabilities of subordinates
- Prepare and execute training and development plans
- Communicate policies and procedures to achieve understanding and compliance
- Provide leadership guidance to achieve maximum performance
- Develop succession plans and ensure Individual Development Plans compliance
Work
- Manage Electrical aspects of KMS surface and underground work activities
- Implement and monitor the Electrical Management System
- Ensure electrical maintenance outputs meet operational requirements at optimum cost
- Specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems
- Implement asset management strategies and corporate programs
- Supervise electrical new build and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with Asset Integrity Program and electrical standards
- Coordinate statutory testing and audits of electrical infrastructure
- Participate in refurbishment, maintenance reviews and Root Cause Failure Analysis
- Achieve power availability and power consumption targets
Costs, Time and Risk
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives
- Ensure engineering costs are within target
- Execute work in a timely manner and maintain optimised electrical operation
- Monitor equipment performance and address potential failures proactively
Reporting and Authorities
- Report to the Electrical Superintendent – KMS Complex
- Stop equipment from operating if it is unsafe
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in electrical or maintenance engineering or equivalent
- Financial, commercial and project management exposure through work experience and courses
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience as an Electrical maintenance and/or design engineer, preferably in maintenance or extractive industry
- Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
- Experience in Project Management
- Knowledge of SAP PM module
Legal Requirements
- Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competency from the Mineral Commission of Ghana
- Professional Engineer (PE) license from the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong electrical maintenance and design competencies in mining or extractive environments
- Sound knowledge of electrical standards and specifications
- Project management and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
- Demonstrated understanding of good engineering practices
