AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The Specialist, infrastructure control – Remnant Mining is accountable for the dispatching, monitoring, and real‑time recording of the condition and operation of the mine’s support systems, including ventilation, electrical, pumping, drainage, process water, compressed air, and other essential utilities.

The role ensures operational continuity, rapid restoration of services, and centralized coordination of all underground infrastructure services. The primary focus is on fixed plant and underground services (utilities), ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation in line with statutory requirements, OEM specifications, and AngloGold Ashanti standards.

 

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety

  • Deliver Safety Management Plan elements in a compliant manner within areas of control
  • Ensure all infrastructure control, instrumentation, and support systems meet statutory mining regulations, OEM standards, and company governance requirements
  • Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance for breaches and lead by example in safety behaviour
  • Lead and enforce safety‑critical procedures, including lock‑out/tag‑out, emergency response, and change management
  • Conduct risk assessments, HAZOPs, critical control verifications, and support incident investigations
  • Identify safety training needs and ensure personnel are competent to perform assigned work

Environment

  • Supervise underground construction, refurbishment, and maintenance activities in line with environmental approvals and the Environmental Management Plan
  • Issue environmental instructions as required
  • Achieve zero reportable environmental incidents and compliance breaches
  • Use analysis and improvement tools to reduce environmental risk exposure

People

  • Define roles and accountabilities using AGA “How We Work” guidelines
  • Execute training, development, and succession plans
  • Communicate policies and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance
  • Build capability, leadership skills, and performance across the team

Operational Work

  • Monitor and dispatch utilities including power, ventilation, pumping, compressed air, and water systems
  • Monitor alarms, record causes and actions, manage tickets, and escalate safety‑critical issues
  • Control scheduling, rescheduling, and infrastructure backlog activities
  • Monitor operational technology systems, network availability, and system performance
  • Analyze downtime data, identify recurring failures, and support root cause analyses
  • Maintain data quality, reporting accuracy, and integrity across dispatch and operational systems
  • Coordinate with mining, development, and production teams to minimize operational impact

Cost, Time, and Risk Management

  • Prepare and manage sectional budgets in line with company strategy
  • Identify and implement costreduction initiatives
  • Ensure operations meet approved schedules, MTBF, MTTR, and availability targets
  • Identify and mitigate operational and maintenance risks using formal risk management systems

Reporting and Authorities

  • Report directly to the OEC Superintendent, with a dotted line to the Engineering Manager – CIC/OT
  • Exercise delegated financial and decisionmaking authority in line with AGA DoA
  • Stop unsafe work and issue safetyrelated instructions when required

Compliance, Procedures, and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, codes, standards, and internal requirements
  • Support audits, inspections, commissioning activities, and change management processes
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, cost, quality, and system performance

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunication, or related) with 3–5 years of relevant experience

OR 

  • Diploma in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunication, Maintenance per LI 2182) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience 

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years in an engineering role, preferably within the mining industry
  • Exposure to industrial ventilation and environmental monitoring systems
  • Experience with operational data management or production tracking systems is desirable

 

 

 Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of CIC standards, SCADA, PLCs, historian servers, and automation systems
  • Familiarity with fleet management, dispatch, and reporting systems
  • Strong underground maintenance and infrastructure systems knowledge
  • Understanding of mining technology platforms, ERP systems, and data architectures
