AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Specialist, Reliability & Asset Integrity – KMS plays a key technical role in ensuring the safe, reliable and cost‑effective operation of mining assets across, but not limited to, KMS Surface and Underground operations. The role operates within the Engineering and Maintenance function and focuses on improving equipment reliability, availability and maintainability through structured reliability engineering practices.
The purpose of the role is to develop, implement and continuously improve equipment maintenance strategies, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) frameworks and defect elimination initiatives that enhance the reliability and integrity of mining assets. Maintenance strategies are developed based on asset criticality, operational risk and equipment performance data to enable safe and cost‑effective maintenance practices.
The role provides technical leadership in predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, failure analysis and asset integrity management to reduce unplanned downtime, prevent catastrophic failures and extend asset life cycles.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Ensure compliance with the AGA Safety Management Plan during reliability investigations, inspections and maintenance interventions.
- Identify unsafe maintenance practices and collaborate with maintenance teams to eliminate them.
- Develop and implement SOPs for non‑routine maintenance and failure recovery tasks.
- Participate in risk assessments and incident investigations related to equipment failure.
- Identify safety risks associated with equipment degradation through condition monitoring activities.
Environment
- Ensure reliability activities comply with the Site Environmental Management Plan.
- Support ISO 14001 compliance through environmental audits of maintenance practices.
- Monitor equipment performance to detect leaks, emissions or environmental hazards.
- Implement defect elimination initiatives to reduce hydrocarbon losses and environmental contamination.
People
- Provide hands‑on coaching and mentoring to reliability technicians and condition monitoring personnel.
- Identify competency gaps and recommend targeted training programs.
- Support development of internal reliability capability and cross‑functional collaboration.
Work
- Lead predictive maintenance and condition monitoring programs across KMS Surface and Underground assets.
- Develop asset reliability strategies using RCM principles.
- Conduct Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Lead defect elimination initiatives targeting chronic equipment failures.
- Apply life‑cycle costing principles to repair, replace or redesign decisions.
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules comply with OEM requirements.
- Support statutory compliance for regulated assets and legal requirements.
Cost
- Optimize maintenance strategies to reduce maintenance cost and downtime.
- Identify cost avoidance opportunities through reliability analysis.
- Recommend cost‑effective equipment repair or replacement strategies based on life‑cycle cost analysis.
Time
- Prioritize reliability work based on asset criticality and operational impact.
- Ensure reliability recommendations are implemented within required timeframes.
Risk Management
- Conduct failure analysis and reliability investigations on critical equipment.
- Monitor equipment condition using vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography and ultrasonic testing.
- Implement engineering controls to mitigate reliability and integrity risks.
Reporting
- Generate weekly and monthly reliability reports including MTBF, MTTR, availability and downtime analysis.
- Provide condition monitoring and failure investigation reports with data‑driven recommendations.
Authorities
- Authority to stop work where unsafe conditions exist.
- Authority to initiate reliability investigations and recommend changes to maintenance strategies.
Audit and Continuous Improvement
- Ensure maintenance and reliability practices comply with statutory, engineering and company standards.
- Participate in audits and inspections and implement corrective actions.
- Continuously improve maintenance strategies through RCA and reliability optimization.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Maintenance Engineering) with 3–5 years’ relevant experience; OR
- Diploma in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience.
- Certification as Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), ICML Machine Lubrication Analyst (MLA), Vibration Analyst ISO Category II or RCM Practitioner is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in reliability engineering roles, preferably in the mining industry.
- Experience working with CMMS systems such as SAP PM.
- Experience in predictive maintenance and condition monitoring programs.
- Experience in data analysis and reliability performance reporting.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong application of reliability engineering methodologies including RCM, FMEA/FMECA and RCA.
- Proficiency in condition monitoring techniques and data analysis tools such as Excel or Power BI.
- Strong understanding of asset integrity management, engineering standards and statutory inspection requirements.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports and communicate reliability insights effectively.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and stakeholder collaboration skills.
