AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Specialist,Survey plays a critical role in enabling safe, efficient, and compliant underground and surface mining operations by directly delivering accurate and timely spatial data within the assigned mining block(s). The role is central to the execution of daily survey activities, reconciliation, void management, and statutory compliance, ensuring operational, technical, and planning teams are equipped with precise and validated data.
Working under the direction of the Survey Superintendent, the Survey Specialist is responsible for generating essential survey outputs, including stope performance, backfill and void models, surface infrastructure surveys, and statutory Mine plans. Block allocations are determined by the Manager - Surveyor in alignment with the Life of Mine Plan.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Promote collaboration with production, technical services, and planning teams to enable accurate and efficient survey support.
- Support team learning through quality data capture and participation in business improvement activities.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Allocate 50% of time in the field to ensure timely delivery of survey requests across underground and surface operations, without undue delay to operational and technical teams.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date spatial inputs to statutory mine plans to support compliance, emergency readiness, and operational decision-making.
- Responsible for actively participating in knowledge-sharing, coaching, and on-the-job training, while working collaboratively with the Survey Superintendent or Senior Survey Specialist to develop personal development goals and uphold performance standards.
- Adhere to established survey guidelines, standards, and procedures to maintain data integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure all work aligns with site operational standards and technical governance.
- Support the implementation of survey procedures, systems, and controls as set out by the Manager Surveyor, and contribute to continuous improvement at the block level.
- Perform daily and weekly underground and surface surveys to support production, development, and infrastructure requirements within the assigned block(s).
- Execute survey tasks contributing to the reconciliation process, ensuring consistency between planned and actual spatial data.
- Responsible for daily and weekly survey reporting, delivering up-to-date and high-quality spatial data to operational and planning teams.
- Responsible for the maintenance of a fit for purpose Deswik Survey Master file that supports underground and surface mine planning activities, including a void model, all vertical and lateral development, topography, and drill hole data.
- Prepare and contribute to monthly reporting requirements, ensuring survey data aligns with mine planning and production targets.
- Identify, implement, and participate in survey-related business improvement initiatives to enhance precision, data turnaround, and system integration across the assigned block(s).
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in surveying, Geomatics, or a related discipline.
- Completion of mine surveyor registration (or in progress), as per jurisdictional requirements.
- Underground induction and mine site safety training certifications
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in underground mining survey operations, with demonstrated exposure to surface survey activities.
- Demonstrated experience in surface control networks, topographic surveys, infrastructure set-out, and underground stope and development surveys.
- Experience in reconciliation, volumetric reporting, and void modelling.
- Familiarity with mine planning systems and Deswik-based survey and model workflows.
- Strong awareness of surface and underground mining environments, hazard controls, and statutory compliance requirements.

Knowledge & Skills
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in mine survey instruments (e.g., Leica, Trimble) and software (e.g., Deswik, AutoCAD, Surpac).
- Knowledge of the use of drones for mine survey activities is a plus
- Competency in establishing and maintaining survey control for both surface and underground operations.
- Effective data handling and reporting skills, including Microsoft Excel and GIS tools
Functional Competencies
- Ability to work in both surface and underground mining environments as required by operational needs.
- Fit for site medical and functional assessments.
- Capable of carrying and operating survey equipment over uneven terrain and confined spaces
