OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Lead and oversee the coordination and execution of mining projects within the mining operations, ensuring the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of infrastructure and operational initiatives.
- Provide expert advice across mining projects, ensuring compliance with approved designs, engineering standards, and the Mineral and Mining (Health and Safety and Technical) Regulations 2012 (L.I 2182).
- Lead the development of construction procedures and documentation to support management against defined deliverables and milestones, while promoting safety culture, hazard awareness, and adherence to mining and statutory codes and regulations in the underground environment.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Maintain a minimum of 60% underground presence to support project execution effectiveness, validate designs, and contribute to continuous improvement through direct engagement with execution teams.
- Facilitate effective communication between project engineering, planning, and construction teams.
- Collaborate with QA/QC engineers, maintain documentation proving compliance, and take corrective actions to prevent costly rework that affects schedules and budgets.
- Develop detailed plans outlining timelines, resources, and budget allocations for every phase of project construction.
- Prepare and manage level 6 schedules that coordinate the activities of team members and contractors to maintain project efficiency.
- Identify and resolve issues arising during the construction process, including delays, worker safety, supply chains, or contractor demands.
- Ensure compliance with project planning standards through the development, maintenance, and application of project documentation, risk assessments, and Project Work Instructions that support safe and effective project delivery.
- Select tools, materials, and processes for construction projects and track the inventory of those items.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with project stakeholders including engineering, construction teams, and management on project progress and challenges.
- Support the evaluation of construction projects through technical inputs, design reviews, documentation preparation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and provide updates on cost performance and potential variances.
- Pre-empt potential process or procedural problems through the implementation of statistical controls, improved work practices, procedures, and processes, and improved team knowledge and skills.
- Report on work programme progression and demonstrate appropriate controls to manage identified risks.
- Support business improvement initiatives and contribute to the implementation of project-related improvements that enhance compliance, efficiency, and project delivery performance.
- Lead operational readiness, commissioning, and handover of mining infrastructure.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering - Mining, Mechanical, Structural, Civil or Mechanical.
- Additional training in project management or underground infrastructure planning is desirable.
- PMP or GHIE certification is an advantage.
- Mine Captain or Engineering Superintendent certificate of competency is an advantage.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence as required by site.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in underground mining, with exposure to infrastructure or project-focused roles.
- Practical experience in underground construction.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to identify and interpret safety risks and report emerging issues, ensuring that appropriate focus and resources are available to achieve safety objectives.
- Demonstrated capacity to interpret data and successfully action sound short-term tactical decisions.
- Proficient in AUTOCAD and MS Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to support planning discussions and documentation.
- Analytical mindset with attention to design accuracy, compliance, and execution requirements.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
