AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Oversee a Safety Management System that ensures a healthy and safe working environment and compliance with relevant standards and legislation for employees, contractors and visitors.

Coordinate risk and provide technical safety support during the transition from Construction to Operations, building a proactive safety culture through training, injury prevention and continuous improvement.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Lead risk assessments, workplace inspections, hazard reporting and incident management, ensuring timely investigations, corrective actions and compliance with OHS KPIs.
• Implement and monitor Safety Management Systems including OSHAS 18001 disciplines, contractor management, compliance reporting, audits and certification readiness.
• Establish and enforce the site Safety Framework for surface operations, recruit and develop the Safety team, and embed training, mentoring and integrated reporting.
• Develop and manage activity-based and capital budgets, monitor plan-versus-actual performance and mitigate budget risks within area of responsibility.
• Contribute to Emergency Response programs, document control and legislative compliance; lead major incident investigations and drive safety communications and culture.
• Integrate environmental management into plans, ensure environmental compliance, investigate incidents and enforce environmental procedures.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Bachelor's Degree in an engineering-related qualification (Chemical, Metallurgical, Electrical, Mechanical, Safety & Environmental or Physical Sciences) or equivalent, plus an advanced professional qualification in Occupational Safety and Health.
• MinCom HSE certification.

Experience

• Minimum of 8 years Safety and Health experience in the mining environment, including at least 2 years in a Superintendent role with supervisory/management experience.
• Experience working on a mine site for 2–5 years with similar mining techniques and processes.

Knowledge & Skills

• Proven capability in Safety Management Systems, integrating behavioural aspects and cross-departmental application.
• Audit and inspection proficiency, including external safety or lead audit course completion and participation in audits at other sites.
• Incident investigation competency with AIIP or IIP training; able to lead moderate/high event investigations and support major/extreme events.
• Ability to coach and lead small teams, deliver training, and influence management adoption of new safety processes.
• Data and information management skills using lead/lag indicators to develop improvement plans and work plans.
• Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations; understanding of adjacent disciplines (Processing, Mining Engineering, Sustainability, HR).
