AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
The Technician, Mechanical - Pastefill is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting Pastefill Plant systems, including mixers, pumps, pipelines, valves, and associated infrastructure. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Pastefill Plant in compliance with Ghana regulatory requirements and AngloGold Ashanti standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Conduct risk assessments prior to task execution
- Participate in workplace inspections and safety observations
- Report hazards and incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Comply with all safety regulations and procedures
Environment
- Comply with the Environmental Management Plan
- Prevent spillages and environmental contamination
- Report environmental incidents and deviations
- Follow environmental procedures during operations
People
- Work closely with supervisors, operators, and contractors
- Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives
Work Execution
- Perform inspections, lubrication, and preventive maintenance
- Support shutdown maintenance and repairs
- Complete work orders and provide feedback into planning systems
- Identify abnormal equipment behaviour and take corrective action
- Execute planned maintenance tasks in line with schedules
- Perform breakdown maintenance and fault finding on mechanical systems
- Replace worn components (bearings, seals, liners, couplings, belts, pulleys)
- Ensure correct assembly, alignment, and installation of components
- Report equipment defects and contribute to Root Cause Analysis
- Support condition monitoring activities to improve reliability
Cost, Time, and Risk
- Execute work cost‑effectively and reduce waste
- Ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks
- Support operators to work within safe operating limits
- Identify and escalate potential equipment failures
Reporting and Compliance
- Report operational and maintenance issues to the Pastefill Plant Engineering Supervisor
- Stop work or equipment where unsafe conditions exist
- Document work orders and inspections accurately
- Comply with Ghana regulatory requirements and AGA standards
- Participate in toolbox meetings and scheduled communication forums
Continuous Improvement
- Proactively identify risks and prevent breakdowns
- Engage in training, workshops, and technical development
- Support commissioning of Pastefill Plant mini‑projects
Minimum Requirements
- Mechanical Technician 1 Certificate or equivalent
- Associate degree / Technical Diploma in Engineering Technology or related field
- City and Guilds Certificate Part I
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Mechanical Technician I Certificate or equivalent
- Associate degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering Technology or related field
- City & Guilds Certificate Part I
Experience
- Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in plant maintenance or mechanical engineering
- Experience in pastefill systems is an added advantage
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of pumps, mixers, pipelines, and slurry systems
- Fault diagnosis and mechanical maintenance skills
- Knowledge of maintenance systems (preventive, predictive, condition monitoring)
- Rotating equipment maintenance
- Strict application of energy isolation procedures
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to write professional technical reports
- Strong teamwork, communication, accountability, and safety leadership
