AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Technician, Mechanical – Process Plant is accountable for executing all tasked mechanical maintenance work on the Process Plant and Tailings Storage Facilities safely, in compliance with operational standards, systems and procedures, to maximize plant availability in a compliant, safe and sustainable cost‑effective manner while minimizing operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objectives.
The role is accountable for executing and completing mechanical maintenance activities on the Processing Plant and TSFs in accordance with original equipment manufacturer standards, ensuring equipment is handed over fit‑for‑purpose to the Processing Plant operations team for safe and efficient use.
The role holder is required to meet set key performance indicator (KPI) targets and provide timely and accurate reports to the Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant on the performance and status of maintenance activities.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Work according to total quality management principles to ensure zero defect objectives and safety compliance.
- Execute all work tasks safely and report unsafe conditions.
Environment
- Adhere to the site Environmental Management Plan.
- Achieve zero reportable environmental incidents and zero compliance breaches.
- Support the Process Department to maintain Cyanide Code certification.
People
- Gather and provide information to the Mechanical Supervisor for performance reporting.
- Work in accordance with AGA’s “How We Work” guidelines with clearly defined roles and accountabilities.
Work
- Execute all tasked maintenance work on the Process Plant and Tailings Storage Facilities.
- Carry out daily inspections, pre‑start and shift handover checks and complete required check sheets.
- Execute routine daily work checks and report anomalies to the Mechanical Supervisor for SAP work request generation.
- Monitor operating parameters and take corrective action or escalate as required.
- Log monitored equipment performance into the asset health system and escalate potential failure symptoms.
- Stop equipment where a high risk or unsafe condition exists and report to the Mechanical Supervisor.
- Identify and recommend continuous improvement actions and cost reduction initiatives.
- Execute work in a timely manner and escalate real or potential delays.
Cost
- Identify, communicate and escalate potential cost reduction initiatives to the Mechanical Supervisor.
- Propose cost-saving projects.
Time
- Execute work within required timeframes and escalate delays to the Supervisor.
Risk Management
- Monitor equipment performance and proactively escalate failure risks to the Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant.
Reporting
- Report directly to the Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant on operational and maintenance issues.
Authorities
- Authority to stop equipment if it is unsafe to operate and report to the Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Minimum of Technician II Certificate, City and Guilds Certificate Part II or equivalent; OR
- Associate degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering Technology or a related field.
Experience
- Experience in maintenance activities in a process plant, metals extraction or mine infrastructure environment.
- Knowledge of SAP PM module.
- Experience in maintenance, project and contract support activities.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of mining operations and safety regulations.
- Strong mechanical maintenance competencies in extractive metallurgy or mining environments.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and perform installations, maintenance and repairs.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills on pumps, gearboxes, mills, crushers, agitators and thickeners.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and reporting skills.
- Knowledge of AGA standards, OEM requirements and mining regulations.
