AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The Reliability engineer is responsible for developing, implementing and reviewing equipment maintenance strategies, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) tactics, and defect elimination projects in order to improve equipment reliability and asset integrity of the mine plant and equipment. The role holder will be directly managing condition monitoring technicians throughout the construction and commissioning stages, to ensure all data points are captured and managed within the SAP platform, against world-class standards.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Conduct QA/QC to ensure the work carried out by the maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.
  • Identify sub-standard work practices and work closely with maintenance team to eliminate them and identify the root cause of these poor work practices.
  • Assign tasks to subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
  • Lead condition monitoring and predictive maintenance programs to prevent unplanned equipment downtime and enable equipment lifespan optimization to its fullest.
  • Develop asset strategies and tactics that enable cost effective, timely and safe maintenance.
  • Conduct reviews and establish maintenance and reliability systems for improving asset tactics.
  • Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and acquisition of assets using the Life Cycle Costing approach
  • Support in the implementation of corporate programs, e.g. asset management strategies, Systems of Work, Operational Effectiveness, and Improvement Interventions.
  • Deploy management routines to identify defects in the workplace
  • Support processing engineering maintenance team to develop a 5-year plan for maintenance activities of the infrastructure to sustain plant availability and reliability.
  • Monitor the performance of processing plant critical equipment operation.
  • Record the adherence to preventive maintenance schedules in accordance with OEM recommended service cycles/approved site maintenance regime.
  • Conduct Failure Reporting by conducting RCA and Reliability Analysis of MTBF/MTTF data.
  • Work with the respective maintenance planner and scheduler to Develop, modify and implement RCM based PM/PdM work packages.
  • Monitor the predictive maintenance program for effectiveness.
  • Lead meetings & workshops (FMECA, RCA, etc.) and report on them
  • Provide support and technical advice/information on equipment maintenance and repairs to TFM/CM team
  • Acquire condition monitoring data and analyze and further take proactive measures to prevent imminent failures to reduce maintenance cost.
  • Facilitate and perform Root Cause Analysis as required.
  • Develop, prioritize and communicate strategic reliability improvement projects, carefully considering the result they would have on productivity of the mine site.
  • Plan and lead the execution of short-term reliability improvements.
  • Proactively review maintenance data and identify opportunities to reduce maintenance cost or improve equipment performance.
  • Manage the defect elimination process.
  • Lead all condition monitoring activities in the processing plant including vibration analysis, thermography survey, lubrication management, laser alignment, ultrasonic inspections, MPI / DPI, and other statutory inspections to ensure that defects are picked up early enough and addressed.
  • Analyse and report on Asset Health conditions for strategic decision making.
  • Ensure guidance and leadership within the condition monitoring team to function effectively
  • Assess risks for all tasks and ensure they are controlled before and during task execution.
  • Report all incidents and ensure they have been investigated and corrective actions completed on time.
  • Act on all corrective actions assigned to you or under your jurisdiction and ensure timely completion.
  • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
  • Manage and optimize the hydrocarbon management through defect elimination and condition monitoring processes
  • Accountable for team’s environmental obligations and performances.
  • Audit Engineering & maintenance activities and report progress.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

Qualification

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or applied sciences.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 2-3 years in reliability engineering and asset management.
  • Familiarity with the Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health Safety and Technical) Regulation

 

Technical Competencies

  • Experience with maintenance/operating machinery
  • MINCOM Sectional Engineer Certificate of Competency is an advantage
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical issues both orally and in writing
  • Proven Competency in the maintenance and asset management of plant and mine infrastructure
  • Knowledge in Oil Analysis, Vibration Analysis, Precision Measurement, Thermography and NDT
